Teleradiology: A challenge for radiology in Colombia as a strategy to improve health services

Abstract

El objetivo de este documento es trazar un panorama de la Teleradiología en Colombia. A partir de una revisión bibliográfico-analítica de documentos científicos, se establece una definición general de la Teleradiología, su importancia para la especialidad médica, sus ventajas, alcances y costos. Las investigaciones revisadas demuestran que la Teleradiología supone un avance técnico, económico y de servicio, pues es más eficiente, más barato y con mayor cobertura. Si bien la reducción de costos depende del protocolo de cada institución y del tipo de intervención que precise el paciente, el orden del ahorro está entre los € 3.38 y los € 16.39 por servicio, en Colombia se encuentra entre el € 3.37 y € 24.26 de acuerdo a la modalidad diagnóstica requerida siendo esto el valor aproximado de la glosa generada por las aseguradoras por no contar con un informe radiológico, sin que esto sea lo más significativo pues la adecuada y oportuna atención al paciente junto a un diagnóstico médico acertado siempre va a superar estos costos, es por esto que la práctica de la Teleradiología debe considerarse dentro de la atención resolutiva de los pacientes. En Latinoamérica la Teleradiología es reciente, por lo que se hace necesario, en inicio, divulgar los beneficios que esta modalidad ofrece a los pacientes, médicos e instituciones y ampliar su cobertura para beneficio del sistema de salud y del paciente.The purpose of this document is to outline an overview of teleradiology in Colombia. From a bibliographical-analytical review of scientific documents, a general definition of teleradiology, its importance for telemedicine, its advantages, scope and costs is established. The investigations reviewed show that teleradiology represents a technical, economic and service advance, since it is more efficient, cheaper and with greater coverage. Although the reduction of costs depends on the protocol of each institution and the type of teleradiology required by the patient, the saving order is between € 3.38 and € 16.39 per service. In Colombia is between € 5.14 and € 60 according to the required diagnostic modality being this the approximate value of the gloss generated by the insurers for not having a radiological report, without this being the most significant because the adequate And timely attention to the patient along with a successful medical diagnosis will always exceed these costs, which is why the practice of Teleradiology should be considered within the resolutive care of patients.
