Strawberry Generation: When Strawberry Parenting and Teaching Weaken Students' Mathematical Resilience
Abstract: Strawberry Generation: When Strawberry Parenting and Teaching Weaken Students' Mathematical Resilience. Objectives: This study aims to investigate the impact of the "strawberry" parenting and teaching approach on students' mathematical resilience, focusing on how such an approach affects their ability to face challenges and adapt in learning environments. Methods: A quasi-experimental design was used, involving two groups of students in a fourth-grade class at SD Muhammadiyah Pendowoharjo. The experimental group received instruction using a growth mindset-based approach, while the control group followed the conventional "strawberry" approach. Pretests and posttests were administered to measure changes in mathematical resilience. Findings: The results revealed that the "strawberry" approach significantly hindered students' mathematical resilience. Students in the experimental group, who were taught using a growth mindset approach, demonstrated better adaptability and problem-solving skills. In contrast, students in the control group struggled with challenges and showed lower levels of resilience. Conclusion: The study highlights the importance of shifting from a protective, overly supportive approach to one that challenges students and encourages growth. Adopting methods that foster resilience, such as problem-based learning, can significantly improve students' mathematical resilience and confidence in learning. Keywords: mathematical resilience, strawberry parenting, growth mindset, problem-based learning, student adaptability, teaching strategies.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v15.i1.20251
Trends in Politeness Research in Indonesian Language Education Journals: A Decade of Insights (2013–2023)
Abstract: Trends in Politeness Research in Indonesian Language Education Journals: A Decade of Insights (2013–2023). Objective: Linguistic politeness is a crucial element in communication that reflects cultural norms and social values, particularly in multicultural societies like Indonesia. This study aims to analyze trends in politeness research within Indonesian language and literature education journals indexed in SINTA during 2013–2023. Methods: Employing a qualitative descriptive approach and the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this research examines 63 articles based on publication volume, research methods, focus areas, theoretical adaptations, and practical implications. Articles were selected using the keywords "politeness" and "linguistic politeness" through a systematic screening process aligned with inclusion criteria, including relevance to the context of language and literature education. Thematic analysis was applied to identify patterns, key trends, and shifts in research focus. Findings: The findings reveal a significant increase in publications between 2019 and 2023, driven by the expansion of digital platforms and the rise of online learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Most studies employed qualitative descriptive methods, focusing on middle school students in formal education contexts. Additionally, there has been growing attention to politeness issues in digital interactions, particularly concerning phenomena like hate speech and trolling. The study also highlights the dominance of international politeness theories, such as those by Brown and Levinson, which have been modified to reflect Indonesia's cultural diversity and social norms. This underscores the need for more excellent localization of global theories. Conclusion: As a recommendation, diversifying research methodologies by incorporating quantitative and mixed methods approaches is strongly advised to provide a more comprehensive understanding of politeness dynamics. Furthermore, integrating politeness education into curricula is essential to promote courteous communication in multicultural and digital contexts. This research contributes to the theoretical discourse by enriching discussions on linguistic politeness and offers practical strategies for fostering harmonious communication in traditional and digital environments. studies. Fostering Food Sustainability: Enhancing Awareness of Local Food Consumption Among Secondary School Students
Abstract: Fostering Food Sustainability: Enhancing Awareness Of Local Food Consumption Among Secondary School Students. Background and Objective: This study aims to explore the awareness of secondary school students regarding local food consumption, particularly in Serang City, Indonesia, through indicators of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. Method: Involving 325 students, the research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design. Findings: The findings revealed that 70.2% of students demonstrated a good understanding of local food sustainability; however, only 61.4% showed positive attitudes, and 54.8% exhibited behavior aligned with local food consumption in daily life. Pearson correlation analysis indicated a significant but weak relationship between students’ knowledge and attitudes (r=0.112; p<0.05), while the relationships between knowledge and behavior, as well as attitudes and behavior, were not statistically significant. These inconsistencies suggest that increasing knowledge does not automatically lead to positive attitude and behavior changes. Therefore, a more integrated approach to food sustainability education is required, including the incorporation of sustainability themes into school curricula, project-based learning, and policies to control the availability of unhealthy processed foods on school campuses. These strategies align with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Conklusion: In conclusion, while students demonstrate a good theoretical understanding, more effective interventions are needed to encourage the adoption of attitudes and behaviors that support sustainable and healthy local food consumption. This study recommends collaboration among the government, educational institutions, and communities to create a generation more conscious of food sustainability. Keywords: education, food sustainability, local food consumption, SDGs.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpp.v15.i1.20251
Dialogic Reading Method in Improving The Understanding of Emotion on Children 4-6 Years Old
Abstract: Dialogic Reading Method in Improving The Understanding of Emotion on Children 4-6 Years Old. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine how effectively the dialogic reading approach helped children aged 4 to 6 understand emotions. Methods: A sample of 25 participants was used in a pretest-posttest design. Pons and Harris (2004) evaluated emotional comprehension using the Test of Emotional Comprehension (TEC). Children's pretest, posttest, and one-week follow-up posttest findings were included in the research data. The data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Findings: after the dialogic reading intervention, there was a significant improvement in emotional understanding scores. Compared to the pretest, the average posttest score (5.68) was higher. Additionally, the average score on the posttest after a week was 6.52. This study revealed a variety of remarkable conclusions about the dialogic reading intervention. Certain aspects of the CROWD reading strategies Complete questions, Repeat questions, Open-ended questions, WH questions, Distancing questions, and unique prompts showed greater levels of interest than others. For example, WH and open-ended questions were very engaging and encouraged children to elaborate on their experiences and provide answers. Children also gave thoughtful answers that differed from the set responses. These answers point to a more nuanced comprehension of emotions and raise the possibility that the TEC is not fully capable of handling a range of responses. Social connections and interpersonal processes shape the children's experiences and statements. Conclusion: The dialogic reading intervention is effective in enhancing emotional understanding in 4- to 6-year-old children. The findings of this study can serve as a valuable reference for educators and parents in developing intervention programs to support children's emotional development.
