In-situ measurement of electrode wear during edm drilling using vision system
Machine vision system is an image-based technology used to perform automatic inspection and analysis such as process control and robot guidance. The aim for this project is to develop a fully automated electrode wear detection system in EDM by using machine vision system and apply this system in detecting electrode wear in EDM. This project was conducted using DSLR camera as monitoring device. The electrode undergo hole making process with a depth of 10 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm, 40 mm, and 50 mm to observe the electrode condition. The image of the electrode will be remotely captured from the laptop and then will undergo image processing process using Matlab software to calculate and determine the electrode wear. The output of this project will show the images of the electrode wear and its wear value. Findings from the project showed that this system is suitable and applicable in EDM super drill machine to monitor the tool condition
Torque control analysis of platform based end effector ankle foot orthosis for rehabilitation
This paper presents the control of a one degree of freedom for lower limb platform based end effector ankle foot orthosis for rehabilitation. The plant of the system is obtained through system identification approach and a proportional-integral (PI) architecture is employed to investigate its efficacy in performing joint-space control objectives namely the dorsi-plantar flexion of the ankle joint. It was found from the study that the PI performed well against the torque control parameter for the system. Variation of load was tested as a disturbance to the system to check the system stability

Proposal of a modular design method considering supply chain: comprehensive evaluation by environmental load, cost, quality, and lead time
For achieving the sustainable consumption and production,
designers and manufacturers should provide inexpensive products that
create a low environmental load on the user. Accordingly, products and
their components should exhibit a modular design, which can be achieved
by considering some factors such as future reuse, remanufacturing, and
upgrading. Modular design methods primarily focus to reduce the lead time
or costs associated with designing an entire family of products. However,
resource efficiency is an important consideration associated with reuse as well
as with the production and procurement stages of manufacturing. Hence,
proper supplier selection is crucial because new products comprise several
components and modules supplied by various manufacturers. So, this paper
proposes a modular design method and strategy based on supply chain
management. Especially, the proposed method evaluates a modular design
strategy based on the cost, environmental load in transportation, quality, and
procurement lead time. After deriving modular architecture candidates by
Design Structure Matrix clustering that divide functionally closer parts into
groups, a proposed indicator is used to evaluate the efficiency of the candidates
based on the modular architectures and suppliers. This study applies the
proposed method to design a laptop computer and derives an appropriate
modular architecture and suppliers with respect to each destination
The impacts of HF and VHF radiation towards preliminary breakdown events in lightning flashes
Even though the mechanisms pertinent to the generation of radiation in frequency range above 3 MHz (HF and VHF radiation) are not well understood, it is thought that this radiation is caused by the electrical breakdown of virgin air rather than by the high current pulses propagating in pre-existing channels. The data presented in this paper also show that more HF radiation (3 MHz) is generated during preliminary breakdown processes taking place inside clouds (probably associated with breakdown of virgin air) than during the subsequent return strokes that propagate along conducting channels. Moreover, we also observe that VHF radiation (30 MHz) only from Preliminary Breakdown (PB) events
