A Comparison of the Kyotsu Listening Test and the Listening Portion of the Sojo International Learning Center Year 1 Placement Test

All students at Sojo University are required to take an English placement test so they can be grouped for compulsory English communication classes according to their proficiency in English. As most students will have taken the Common Test for University Admission prior to entering university, a comparison of these tests was performed in order to highlight the differences and similarities between the two formats. Study of Liquid Surface Behavior in Tanks of Liquid Propellant Detonation Engine Systems

A flight demonstration of a detonation engine system using liquid propellant （ethanol-nitrous oxide） （DES2; hereinafter abbreviated as DES2） is planned for FY2024 using the observation launch vehicle S520-34. The DES2 propellant tank will be pressurized with nitrogen gas. In this study, the mechanism of liquid surface behavior in the DES2 propellant tank was investigated, and CFD predictions under low gravity （0.1G） at DES2 engine ignition were analyzed, and it was confirmed that the CFD analysis and the elucidated mechanism were almost consistent. The results of the CFD analysis were in agreement with the results of the ground experiment and the results of the CFD analysis performed under the same physical conditions and with the same analysis method as that used for the DES2. In addition, the validity of the countermeasure for the premature blow-in by pressurizing gas （GN2）, which was identified as a problem in the CFD analysis, was also confirmed.departmental bulletin pape

A Study on Rubric Generation and Automated Scoring Using ChatGPT ―The Use of Rubrics in Entrepreneurship Education―

本研究は、ChatGPTによるルーブリック生成およびルーブリックを利用した評価について、その利用可能性を検討することを目的として、信頼性および妥当性の検証を行った。ChatGPTにより、修正前・修正後の2つのルーブリックを得た。アントレプレナーシップ基礎講座を受講する大学生のレポートについて教師とChatGPTによる採点を行った。教師による採点で上位グループ・中位グループ・下位グループそれぞれ6つを得た。各グループのサンプルレポート1つずつを利用して、ChatGPTによる評価観点別の採点を実施した。次に、サンプルレポートと教員によるその採点結果を利用した学習有り・無しの条件で各グループ5つのレポートを採点した。その結果、修正後ルーブリックを用いたChatGPTによる採点結果では高い一貫性がみられた。また、上位レポートでは、高い信頼性が得られた。評価観点について、構成や表現に関する1観点以外では妥当な結果が得られた。教師とChatGPTによる採点の比較では、上位グループでは同等の結果となったが、中位グループと下位グループでは教員よりも高い得点分布となった。ChatGPTによって十分利用可能なルーブリックは得られたが、自動採点への利用は難しいと判断した。departmental bulletin pape

Fundamental Study on Laser Welding of Magnesium Alloy Thin Sheet ―Butt Welding with Q-switched Fiber Laser―

マグネシウム合金は実用金属の中で最も軽量であり、切削性が良く、リサイクルが可能などの特徴を持っていることから様々な分野で使用されている。しかしながら、マグネシウム合金をレーザ加工する場合、燃焼しやすい材料であるため、適切な加工条件でなければレーザ加工熱によって容易に燃焼してしまう。そこで、ファイバレーザによりマグネシウム合金の薄板について溶接加工を行い、レーザ加工条件に対する溶接加工特性について検討した。本実験では試験片として、汎用的なマグネシウム合金であるAZ31Bの薄板を使用して、レーザ走査条件が突き合わせ溶接加工特性に及ぼす影響について考察した。長さ：50 mm、幅：10mm、厚さ：0.57 mmの試験片2枚について、試験片入射面上に対するレーザ焦点位置を変化させて突き合わせ溶接を行った結果、レーザ焦点位置を試験片入射面からレーザ照射方向へ移動した場合に溶接加工が可能となった。そして、焦点位置が7.0 mmの場合に最大引張力が約320N（試験回数3回の平均値）の溶接強度が得られた。試験片入射面と出口側のスポット径の大きさが同程度となり、入射側と出口側の熱影響部のバランスが取れたことで、最も効率的な溶融接合が得られたものと考えられる。departmental bulletin pape

What is Education for? ―Implications from Shonan Yokoi's Proposal for the Establishment of a School―

江戸時代の各藩には藩校が設立された。藩校設立は天明期（1781-1789）以降に急速に増加し、文化期（1804-1818）から天保期（1830-1844）にかけて頂点に達した。ところが、この頃から藩財政の行き詰まりにより藩政改革が重要な政治課題となり、藩校教育に求められる内容にも変化が生じた。武士に教養を身に付けさせる教育だけでなく、藩財政の立て直しや外圧に対する軍事技術などの現実的課題に対応できる人材育成も求められるようになったのである。福井藩では文政2年（1819）に13代藩主の松平治好が藩校の正義堂を設立したが、経費の問題などから天保5年（1834）に藩校は閉鎖された。嘉永4年（1851）、熊本藩士の横井小楠（1809-1869）は諸国遊歴に出かけ、北九州、山陽道、畿内、南海道、東海道、北陸道の24藩をまわり、福井藩にしばらく滞在した。小楠のこの福井訪問が藩校再建の動きに火をつけることとなり、小楠は福井藩より藩校再建の是非について意見を求められた。これに答えた文書が嘉永5年（1852）の「学校問答書」である。この文書で小楠は、他人のためにする学問（為人の学）ではなく、自分のためにする学問（修己治人の学、すなわち為己の学）の考え方が重要であると説いた。本稿では、この考え方から得られる今日の教育への示唆についての考察を行う。departmental bulletin pape

Current Issues and Challenges of The Practical Seminar for Teaching Profession (2)

本稿は、本学総合教育センターに所属する教職に関する科目担当教員が共同して「教職実践演習」の実践を報告するものである。令和5年3月に刊行された『崇城大学紀要』（第48巻）に「『教職実践演習』の現状と課題（1）―崇城大学における令和3年度の取組を中心に―」と題した実践報告に次ぐ第2報である。 教員不足問題が顕在化している只中にあるからこそ、教師の質保証に焦点を当て、教職課程教育全体の改善に取り組んでいる。「教職実践演習」では教職に関する科目担当教員・専門学科教員の協働のみならず、外部から講師を招くこと等を積極的に展開している。教職を志す履修学生に対して多くの有益な情報や刺激を与えることができている。その一方で、本学が開放制であるがゆえに、履修学生の意欲が個々人でばらついている等の課題も確認された。すべての履修学生が教員として最低限必要な資質能力を身につけるだけでなく、広く教育に対する関心を高める契機となるよう科目内容の改善を図っていきたい。departmental bulletin pape

Research Note on Hindu Caves in Tamil Nādu, Southern India

This small paper reports on a survey of Hindu caves in the Tamil region, which was part of the field survey of the ‘Field Survey of Kolam Painting in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere in South India’ conducted in January 2024. Eight Hindu caves in five regions are reported here: the Hindu caves built by the Pallava dynasty on the outskirts of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, and the Hindu caves built by the Pandya dynasty south of the Kaveri River, particularly south of Thanjavur.departmental bulletin pape

Usage and Perceptions of ChatGPT in Class and Self-Access Learning Contexts

This study investigated the usage and perceptions of ChatGPT among 1,129 non-linguistic major students in a medium-sized private Japanese university. As generative AI tools like ChatGPT become more prevalent in educational settings, understanding their role in language learning is essential. A branching questionnaire survey was conducted to explore how students use ChatGPT in both English classroom settings and self-access learning environments. The survey revealed that while 60% of the students have used ChatGPT, only 13% actively utilized it for English self-access learning and 11% used it in English class. In contrast, a significant majority (76%) reported using ChatGPT for subjects other than English, and 55% used it for daily life activities. These findings suggested that while ChatGPT has been widely adopted among students in the university, its application specifically for English language learning remains limited. This study highlights the need for targeted strategies to encourage the effective use of AI tools like ChatGPT in language education. It also underscores the importance of developing support to help students maximize the benefits of language learning through the use of emerging technologies as learning resources.departmental bulletin pape

Investigating a Multicultural Camping Excursion’s Effect on University Students’ Willingness to Communicate

Willingness to communicate (WTC) was originally developed in reference to L1 communication (McCroskey & Baer, 1985). Over the last few decades research on WTC has focused on communication in the L2, especially in the classroom setting. Numerous studies have been conducted investigating ways to increase L2 learner’s WTC in the classroom, while little recent research exists on increasing WTC in the L1, either in or out of the classroom. This quasi-experimental study was a preliminary investigation into whether a multicultural camping excursion would lead to an increase in university students’ WTC in either Japanese or English. Using a control group comprised of excursion participants’ classmates in English language courses, pre- and post-test surveys were administered and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results showed a larger increase in mean Japanese WTC for excursion participants than for non-participants, but similar increases in mean English WTC for both groups. Positive and negative changes were reported by individuals in both groups for both Japanese and English WTC. The authors conclude that while data suggests mean increases in WTC for excursion participants, limitations of the study due to sample size and scale measurement reduce the generalizability of the findings. 本稿は、拙稿「村野四郎初期作品資料―第一詩集『罠』前後の詩を中心に―」（「崇城大学紀要」第四九巻　二〇二四年三月）に続いて、一九三一年から一九四四年までの、現段階で判明している雑誌発表の村野四郎の詩作品二〇〇篇を年譜としてまとめたものである。単行詩集の所収作品、及び村野四郎の編集により『定本村野四郎全詩集』（筑摩書房、一九八〇年八月）に「拾遺」として収録されている作品と照合し、その詩集名等も記載している。詩作を始める以前からの俳句作品二七六句を資料編としてまとめた「村野四郎初期作品資料―『体操詩集』前後の俳句を中心に―」（「崇城大学紀要」第四七巻　二〇二二年三月）と合わせて、戦前期における村野四郎の韻文作品について、その創作過程のおおよそが把握できると思われる。departmental bulletin pape
