Diseases involving the emergence of bacteria has been treated traditionally since ancient times using medicinal plants as they contain the components of therapeutic element. Hence, in this study, a medicinal plant that could be the next solution to green antibacterial agent was discuss. It included antibacterial activities against selected gram- positive and gram-negative bacteria by Kirby–Bauer disc method, toxicity evaluation by brine shrimp lethality assay and phytochemical analysis using GC-MS of ethanolic leaves extracts of Strobilanthes crispus. From this study, S. crispus shown remarkable antibacterial activities toward S. epidermidis at the highest concentration (250 mg/ml) but not effective against P. aeruginosa. The statistical analysis (ANOVA) show that there were significant different between the data which mean that the differences among the data can be assumed coming from the manipulation of treatment and experiment only. From the phytochemical analysis, there were 14 phytochemical constituents that was identified to be present in the extract with 90% and above. They were 5- hydroxymethylfurfural, palmitic acid, octadec-9-enoic acid, cyclopentadecane, linoleic acid, methyl 7,10,13-hexadecatrienoate, acetic acid, phytol, isopropyl linoleate, linolenoylglycerol, oleic acid, elaidic acid, glycerol oleate and squalene. From this, few was reported to possess antibacterial activities which are acetic acid, glycerol oleate, oleic acid, isopropyl linoleate and phytol. While in toxicity evaluation, S. crispus was found to be non-toxic toward the nauplii as the LC50 was 58289.12 μg/mL which was higher than 1000 μg/mL thus considered as non-toxic based on Meyer toxicity index

Housing development in Malaysia among the main concern as it poses a significant challenge in fulfilling client satisfaction. The majority of the population is still aspiring for a comfortable, safe and reasonably priced house. Unfortunately, households in the middle-income range face difficulties to find housing that can satisfy their needs and budget. Skyrocketing of housing prices and undersupply of the affordable house lead to this phenomena. The aim of this research is to establish strategies for developing affordable housing. This research will be carried specifically focusing on the residential project on affordable housing development in Kuching, Sarawak. The objectives of this research are to identify the availability of housing incentives. Besides that, this research is to determine the challenges of developing affordable housing and recommends the critical success factors of developing affordable housing. ln addition, these research concentrates to the development of strategies in developing affordable housing thus it is focusing the respondents among housing developer. The research method is using literature reviews and questionnaires survey to conduct the study in order to achieve the objective of the research. The outcomes of these research study expected to obtain the further detailed on the challenges & strategies towards the developments of affordable housing. The outcomes of this paper will assist in the decision making involving housing development and enhancing the strategies in the affordable housing developments

Parks and recreational area offer various kind of activities that can be done by individuals during their leisure time. Commonly, 30% of an area developed must be reserved for green area or an open space. According to the planning guideline of open space and recreational area, there are eight (8) types of hierarchy that consist of National Park, Regional Park, City Park, Local Park, Neighbourhood Park, Playground, Play Lot and Private Park. All of the hierarchy of parks mention has its own function that followed by the capacity of the park itself. This study has narrow down the scope into the neighbourhood park. It was determined that the neighbourhood park is a recreation area that is located in the neighbourhood area for any recreational activities, sports and it is also act as a social interaction places for the local residents that lives in the neighbourhood area. Neighbourhood park can accommodate 3,000-12,000 people at one time. This study aimed on studying the provision of safe facilities in the neighbourhood park in the study area chosen. An analysis and compilation of the available information on the subject was conducted with emphasis on those facilities located in the neighbourhood park in the study area. It was determined that the safety of the users problem were principally due to poor safety condition and poor quality of construction. In addition, the research indicates that properly design and constructed facilities are durable. It was found that a lack of maintenance and inspection of the facilities provided could lead to a serious injuries. It is recommended that the responsible parties take a serious action in maintaining and upgrading the facilities in neighbourhood park of the study area other than adding some new facilities to ensure the safety of the users are in good condition and to ensure the good future performance of the park

Numerical modelling on the effects of flow rates to the velocity profiles in serpentine microfluidic structure / Mohd Yussof Sudin

    Get PDF
In this modern era, the development of microfluidic technology applies itself to getting the laboratory-based device into the real environment for end-user applications. Flow focusing as can be seen in the application of flow cytometry is achievable through hydrodynamic flow, dielectrophiresis or using inertia force. This work leverages the effect of inertia force in curved microchannel to assist the generation of flow focusing. The fundamental issues in inertia focusing is to identify the flow velocity (represents the flow rates) to initiate the secondary flow formation in the channel. The main objective of this project is to study the effect on+ the velocity profile in the microchannel at different flow rates and the formation of the secondary flow in the channel. The research will be performed with a microfluidic channel configuration consisting of 5 curvatures with a tipping angle of 20°. ANSYS Fluent software will be used to construct the design and tested by using four volume flow rates which are 10 pL/min, 50 pL/min, 100 pL/min and 200 pL/min. ANSYS fluent can generate the result of streamline, vector and contour. From the result, the scalar velocity from each cross-section in the channel will generate a velocity flow profile and Dean Vertices. At Q 50 pL/min, Secondary flow already occur at Dean number = 5.62. Increasing the volume flow rate will have an impact on the performance and stability of secondary flow

Development of graphical user interface for milling machine energy prediction tool / Muhammad Ikmal Hakim Badrulsham

In this modem technologies, manufacturing industries facing a crisis that affect the environmental performance which is exceed of energy consumption in production. The machinists and manufacturers have found a way of reducing energy consumption during machining processes such as machining strategies optimization. Unfortunately, manufacturing industries have difficulties in practicing the optimization of machining strategies which is there is limited guidance to measure and predict the energy usage. This research developed a prediction tool to analyze the energy consumption in CNC milling machine operation and verified the effectiveness and functionality of the energy prediction tool. The prediction tool was generated using MATLAB Graphical User Interface (GUI) which study the energy consumption of CNC milling machine which affected by the optimization of machining parameters such as spindle speed (rpm), feed rate (mm/min) and depth of cut (mm) and also the behaviour of cutting paths used which are morph spiral, parallel and spiral. The finding of this research is the development of comprehensive GUI tool to predict the energy consumption during machining operation of 5-axis CNC milling. The accuracy of this developed GUI is measured to be 95% accurate which is done by comparing the predicted value with experimental data. As a consequence, the proposed machining energy GUI is capable to measure and predict the energy usage during machining operation of 5-axis CNC milling

The problem of solid waste management has no end. This increase in waste disposal is in line with the rapid population growth and economic sector. This main cause is contributed by humans. Lack of exposure to management contributes to the environment in particular and disrupts the community's income. Good management will ensure the sustainability of the area. However, systematic solid waste management is very important in daily life. The study area is located at Parit Raja Complex. Two methods are used to collect data which involves questionnaires and observation. Involving 40 respondents consist of public businessmen respondents around Parit Raja Complex and residential areas. This data collection was taken almost 4 days from 18 February - 21 February 2020 while 3 weeks for observation. The analysis found most communities lack exposure to recycling involvement, the awareness of systematic solid waste management, and the hygiene of dumping sites that impact the surrounding area. Respondent data information is entered and coded into the IBM SPSS Statistics 23 application. Various methods are planned such as practice to ensure waste management is applied to all categories of society. The disclosure that is the implementation and practice of recycling program campaigns such as the 3R waste segregation concept is an initiative to ensure that this problem can be controlled
