This article discusses works by Icelandic baroque poets Hallgrimur Petursson (1614-1674) and Stefan Ólafsson (1619-1667) that are critical of contemporary issues, also taking into account their 17lh-century historical background. Both poets were pastors and found ample occasion for criticizing the moral, economic and political state of affairs in their country. In particular, the poems “Passiusalmar” and “Aldarhittur" by Hallgrimur Péursson, among others, as well as “Danskurinn”, “Um fyrri og |)essa old” and “Ómennskukvae5i” by Stefan Olafsson are presented and analyzed with respect to content and form

Ett bidrag till teorin om det svenska perfektums utveckling

An attempt is made to account for the development of the Swedish perfect tense. The analysis is based on Kuiylowicz’s theory on the origin of temporal categories. The Swedish perfect tense is derived from periphrastic present constructions which denote present states resulting from past events. The constructions tend to develop the temporal meaning of Past (Praeteritality while gradually reducing that of Present (Presentavity). This development is caused by the processes of delexicalization and grammaticalization. The Swedish perfect tense, however, has not yet reached the stage of pure Praeteritality though in certain contexts it can already be determined by temporal adverbs primarily referring to the Past

    Spräktabu og tabuomräder i norsk

    No full text
The aim of the article is to present the various aspects of language taboo in Norwegian. The author tries to account for the term "language taboo" and draw some kind of distinction between the primiive "taboo of fear", the evolving "taboo of delicacy" and "taboo of proriety" in modem Norwegian. The latter has a social background and ranges from statements with a slightly vulgar tinge to extremely offenive acts of verbal abuse regarded as Face Threatening Acts. Social taboos generally include the deity, sex, excretion and strangers. In the conclusions the author underlines that taboo in Norwegian remains a little explored area and suggests a possible approach to a comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon. Further research in this field seems to be a necessity and should comprise both the anthropological, semantic and functional aspects of taboo, both within the culture and the language

Nasjonalsosialistisk universitetspolitikk i Poznan og Oslo

The article analyzes the different occupation policy of Germany in the university sector in Norway and Poland, focusing on the cases of Oslo and Poznan. The difference in occupational regime was decisive for the outcome. The different ranking of the Norwegian and Polish population in the nazi racial system led to an extremely brutal and destructive strike against Polish academics and institutions. The Polish university in Poznan was dissolved, the staff killed, deported or removed in other ways, and in 1941 the University reopened as a German, SS-dominated Reichs-University. Polish underground managed to continue some kind of academic activity and training, thus providing young people with learning and sources of self-esteem. In Oslo, the occupants attempted to draw the Norwegian academic elite into active collaboration, and bring about a slow turn of the liberal democratic institution into a national socialist defined university after the pattern of the earlier transformations taking place in Germany after 1933 and Austria 1938. The attempt failed, because the majority of staff and students put up resistance and refused to adhere. The policy changed after this failure, and in 1943 nearly 20% of the teachers were arrested along with 1200 students. Half of these students were deported to Germany for the rest of the war, in an attempt to re-educate them to embrace SS-ideology. This attempt failed as well - and not one of them volunteered to serve the German armed forces. Both the Polish and the Norwegian cases show the limitations of totalitarian use of power when confronted with the inner resistance based on liberal, democratic and patriotic values

Detlyrisk e jeg i Inventarium af Kaspar Kaum Bonnen og Altings A af Tomas Thøfner

The poetic subject is a constituting feature of the poetic genre distinguishing it from other literary genres. The presence of a speaking voice and a central perspective in a poem is one of the most fundamental expectations to the poetic text, and it is a determining factor of the reader’s approach to the text as it offers the reader the possibility of understanding the poem through identification with the experiences and views of the speaking subject. As the genre evolves the poetic subject takes different forms, and in experimental postmodern poetry the lyric voice is often challenged and replaced by a fragmented expression favouring the polyphonic or impersonal. This paper examines the poetic subjects of two contemporary Danish works of poetry, Inventarium by Kaspar Kaum Bonnén and Altings A by Tomas Thøfner, and discusses the implications of the function of the poetic subject to the understanding of the text

    Get PDF
The aim of the paper is to present the main trends within philosophy in Norway. The author also discusses the most important research works carried out at university centres, the goal of which is to analyse Norwegian post-war philosophy. The predominant movement, so called ‘practical philosophy’, deals with ethical, religious, political, social and economic issues. Many Norwegian philosophers are also active as university teachers or researchers at universities in Oslo (e.g. Arne Naess, Hans Skjervheim, Trond Berg Eriksen, Torstein Tollefsen, Anfinn Stigen) and in Bergen (e.g. Gunnar Skirbekk, Nils Gilje, Vigdis Songe-Møller, Knut Erik Tranøy
