Providing Spiritual Care to Patients Undergoing Open-Heart Surgery in Turkey: A Phenomenological Analysis of Nurses’ Perspectives

    No full text
Open-heart surgery is a physically, psychologically, and spiritually demanding experience, making holistic nursing care essential for supporting patients’ overall well-being. This study aimed to explore the spiritual care experiences of nurses providing care to patients undergoing open-heart surgery. A qualitative phenomenological design was used to capture the meaning structures underlying nurses’ experiences. The study was conducted in the Cardiovascular Surgery (CVS) intensive care unit and ward of Van Training and Research Hospital. Data were collected between May and June 2025 through face-to-face, in-depth individual interviews with 10 nurses who had experience caring for patients undergoing open-heart surgery. Interviews were audio-recorded with participants’ consent, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed using Braun and Clarke’s six-phase thematic analysis approach with support from MAXQDA 24. The analysis revealed four main themes and 24 sub-themes reflecting the core meaning of nurses' spiritual care experiences. The main themes are: 1- The nurse’s inner world and clinical reflections of spiritual care, 2- Patients’ individual spiritual needs, belief systems, and perceptions of illness and death, 3- Implementation of spiritual care: the nurse’s role and the texture of care, 4- Barriers and system-level constraints in providing spiritual care. Nurses reported that spiritual care enhanced patients’ inner peace, coping capacity, and readiness for surgery while strengthening the therapeutic relationship. However, limited education and inadequate institutional support hindered the consistent delivery of spiritual care. The findings underscore the importance of developing culturally sensitive training programs, establishing institutional guidelines, and promoting multidisciplinary collaboration to strengthen nurses’ competence and extend the integration of spiritual care into clinical practice

Profiles of codependency and attachment styles in married women: A latent profile analysis of marital mindfulness, emotional reactivity, and psychological resilience

Aim: This study examines the relationship between codependency and attachment styles among married women, along with variables such as marital mindfulness, emotional reactivity, and psychological resilience. The aim is to determine how these psychological factors interact and which groups are more prone to codependency. Method: Data were collected from 1,155 married women in Türkiye through an online survey. Latent profile analysis was used to study codependency and attachment styles in relation to marital mindfulness, emotional reactivity, and psychological resilience. Group differences were assessed using chi-square tests, and predictors of profile membership were identified through logistic regression. Findings: Profile 1 is marked by moderate anxiety, avoidance, reactivity, and codependency. In contrast, Profile 2 is characterized by comparatively low levels across attachment dimensions (i.e., generally low attachment activation), low emotional reactivity and marital mindfulness, and the lowest level of codependency. Profile 3 includes secure attachment, high mindfulness, psychological resilience, low reactivity, and minimal codependency. Profile 4 exhibits high anxiety and avoidance, high reactivity, low mindfulness, low psychological resilience, and the highest level of codependency. Logistic regression indicated that higher emotional reactivity was associated with substantially higher odds of belonging to the highest-risk profile (OR ≈ 8). In contrast, marital mindfulness and psychological resilience were inversely associated with the odds of belonging to this profile. Psychological resilience offers a similar protective effect. Conclusion: This study found that married women cluster into four distinct groups based on relationship security, emotional regulation, and tendencies toward codependency. The most at-risk group demonstrates high emotional reactivity, insecure attachment styles, and low levels of mindfulness and psychological resilience

Interactions between Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata (L.) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) and Cucurbit powdery mildew Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata (L.) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) ile Kabakgil külleme hastalığı arasındaki ilişkiler

In cucurbit production, fungicides used to control powdery mildew, which significantly reduces product yield and quality, generate environmental pollution and residues. Sustainable approaches are therefore needed to control this disease. To evaluate the potential of Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata (Linnaeus) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) as a biological control agent against Erysiphe cichoracearum (DC.) (Erysiphales: Erysiphaceae), biological parameters and population dynamics were determined under controlled conditions (25±2°C, 70±5% humidity, 12:12 photoperiod) for two generations. A two-sex, age-stage life table approach was used to analyse the data. The results indicated that mean lifetime fecundity ranged from 317.48±142 to 376.55±146 eggs per female. P. vigintiduopunctata completed its development in 26.7–28.4 days in both generations. The total longevity of females was 102 to 108 days, while males had a lifespan of 106 to 107 days. The intrinsic rate of increase (r) of the predator on E. cichoracearum was found to be between 0.0788 and 0.0829 females/day, while the mean generation time (T) varied between 58.7 and 61.5 days. The gross reproductive rate (GRR), which represents the number of offspring produced per female per generation, ranged from 219.5 to 228.5 individuals. These laboratory results indicate a promising potential for P. vigintiduopunctata as a biological control agent against E. cichoracearum in cucurbits
