    次代の地域ブランド構築と大学の役割

    No full text
13(1):39-47(2016)journal articl

Dysfunction of Protein Quality control in Parkinsonism-Dementia complex of Guam

    No full text
Guam parkinsonism-dementia complex (G-PDC) is an enigmatic neurodegenerative disease that is endemic to the Pacific island of Guam. G-PDC patients are clinically characterized by progressive cognitive impairment and parkinsonism. Neuropathologically, G-PDC is characterized by abundant neurofibrillary tangles, which are composed of hyperphosphorylated tau, marked deposition of 43-kDa TAR DNA-binding protein, and neuronal loss. Although both genetic and environmental factors have been implicated, the etiology and pathogenesis of G-PDC remain unknown. Recent neuropathological studies have provided new clues about the pathomechanisms involved in G-PDC. For example, deposition of abnormal components of the protein quality control system in brains of G-PDC patients indicates a role for proteostasis imbalance in the disease. This opens up promising avenues for new research on G-PDC and could have important implications for the study of other neurodegenerative disorders.ArticleFRONTIERS IN NEUROLOGY.9:173(2018)journal articl

Fabrication of high thermal conductivity Cu/diamond composites at ambient temperature and pressure

    No full text
High thermal conductivity Cu/diamond composites were produced at ambient temperature and pressure using an electrodeposition technique, employing various diamond particle sizes in the range of 10 to 230 mu m. The microstructures of the resulting composites were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and their thermal conductivities were assessed using a Xenon flash instrument. The theoretical thermal conductivities of these materials were calculated based on the Hasselman-Johnson equation and compared with the experimentally determined values. The Cu/diamond composites produced in this work were found to exhibit compact textures without any gaps between the Cu matrix and the diamond particles, and the experimental thermal conductivities were in good agreement with the theoretical values. The specimen containing 61 vol.% of 230 mu m diameter diamond particles had the highest conductivity of 662 W K-1 m(-1), which is 1.6 times that of pure Cu (ca. 400 W K-1 m(-1)). Cellular Responses of Human Lymphatic Endothelial Cells to Carbon Nanomaterials

    No full text
One of the greatest challenges to overcome in the pursuit of the medical application of carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) is safety. Particularly, when considering the use of CNMs in drug delivery systems (DDSs), evaluation of safety at the accumulation site is an essential step. In this study, we evaluated the toxicity of carbon nanohorns (CNHs), which are potential DDSs, using human lymph node endothelial cells that have been reported to accumulate CNMs, as a comparison to fibrous, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and particulate carbon black (CB). The effect of different surface characteristics was also evaluated using two types of CNHs (untreated and oxidized). In the fibrous MWCNT, cell growth suppression, as well as expression of inflammatory cytokine genes was observed, as in previous reports. In contrast, no significant toxicity was observed for particulate CB and CNHs, which was different from the report of CB cytotoxicity in vascular endothelial cells. These results show that (1) lymph endothelial cells need to be tested separately from other endothelial cells for safety evaluation of nanomaterials, and (2) the potential of CNHs as DDSs.ArticleNANOMATERIALS. 10(7):1374 (2020)journal articl

    精神科看護師のコンピテンシーと職場ストレッサーとの関係

    No full text
[Objective]To clarify the relationships between nursesʼ competencies and workplace stressors on psychiatric wards. [Methods]A questionnaire survey was conducted involving 318 nurses working on psychiatric wards in a single prefecture to examine scores from self-administered questionnaire survey of psychiatric nursing competency and workplace stressor scales. Responses from 146 nurses were analyzed by calculating descriptive statistics, comparing scores based on attributes, and comparing workplace stressor scale scores among 3 groups based on the total psychiatric nursing competency scale. [Results]On comparing factors representing psychiatric nursesʼ competencies, 〈comprehensive services for profession〉 achieved a signifi cantly higher score, whereas the score for 〈evidence-based treatment and crisis intervention〉 was markedly lower. Furthermore, nurses with high scores for 〈life histories〉, 〈emotional response management〉, and 〈information provision and support〉 showed lower workplace stressor scale scores than those with low/intermediate scores for these factors. [Conclusions]It may be eff ective for psychiatric nurses to acquire knowledge/skills related to 〈life histories〉, 〈emotional response management〉, and 〈information provision and support〉 representing psychiatric nursesʼ competencies, and address their motives and self-images for such acquisition, in order to develop higher-level competencies with reduced workplace stressors.departmental bulletin pape
