    The Effects of Tax Evasion and Avoidance on Government Internally Generated Revenue in Borno State

    Tax evasion and avoidance exist in all societies and cannot be completely eliminated but can be drastically reduced. This study examined the extent to which tax evasion and avoidance affect government internally generated revenue and the extent to which tax evasion and avoidance affect Borno State Government. A cross-sectional survey design was employed. Data were collected from primary source through administration of questionnaires to 86 respondents drawn from a population of 109 tax officials selected using simple random sampling technique and 76 returned copies were analyzed using percentages, mean and standard deviation. Hypotheses were tested using Chi-Square with the aid of SPSS version 20. This study revealed significant effect of tax evasion and avoidance on internally generated revenue in the state. This study recommends the government to have political will to implement tax policies, recruit qualified staff, enforce tax laws, provide comprehensive database of taxpayers through computers and internet facilities. The implication of this study is that evasion and avoidance thrive where tax administrative machinery inefficiency exists which leads to abandoned projects and programs and if overhauled, it will be reduced to the barest minimum in the state

    Small and medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) easy accessibility to bank credit is an important factor to enormous success of the sub-sector for socio-economic development of Nigeria economy. This phenomenon prompted the work on small and medium scale enterprises and deposit money banks credit for economic growth in Nigeria. The SMEs is globally known to grow the economy of the nations through its ability to diversify the economy and promote indigenous technology and service development through entrepreneurship. The work considered many interventions through many schemes and policies alongside the involvement of deposit money banks in providing finances to this organ. Some plausible recommendations were advanced for the attainment of suitable SMEs to create employment and alleviate poverty to boost the standard of living

    Moderating Effects of Innovation on the Relationship between Micro-Credit and Financial Performance of Microenterprises in Kaduna Metropolis

    The financial performance which measures the overall financial health of microenterprise is dismal and can become worrisome to government and stakeholders in the private sector of a nation’s economy. Moderating effects of innovation on the relationship between microcredit and financial performance of microenterprises in Kaduna metropolis was examined. The study formulates two hypotheses and applied Multiple Regression technique aided by SPSS to analyze the relationship between financial performance and microcredit with innovation as moderator. Primary data used, were collected from a sample size of 413 owners-managers of microenterprises using structured questionnaires. The finding of the study is that micro-credit significantly has positive effect on the financial performance of microenterprises in Kaduna metropolis. Findings also revealed the moderating effect of innovation on micro-credit and financial performance as significant. It is recommended micro-finance institutions increase the quantum of microcredit so as to enhance and improve the financial performance of microenterprises. Also, the microfinance institutions should employ innovation which may include product innovation, process innovation, technological innovation among others, to strengthen the relationship between micro-credit and financial performance of the microenterprise

    Psychological Empowerment and Job Satisfaction: Mediating Role of Emotional Intelligence

    Lecturers of universities are very vital employees in any country because of the role they played for the production of critical manpower who control every sector that is important in any country.  This study aims to examine the mediating role of emotional intelligence on the relationship between lecturers` psychological empowerment which is made up of competence, impact, meaning and self-determination on lecturers` job satisfaction. In this study, a total of 670 copies of questionnaire were distributed to lecturers of all the public universities in Kano State, using simple random sampling; 559 were retrieved and used for analysis. Partial Least Squares Method (PLS) algorithm and bootstrap technique were used to test the hypothesis of the study. The study found emotional intelligence having significant mediating effect on the relationship between competence and meaning on job satisfaction. Universities in Nigeria are recommended to provide trainings on emotional intelligence to lecturers of universities to enable them cope with increasing stress and other challenges they faced on the job which will subsequently enhance their job satisfaction

    The issue of tax has been one of the major concerns of countries all over the world because of its implications in generating revenue for expenditure. Thus, each country would act accordingly to attract more foreign investors and to stimulate the inflow of foreign direct investments. Tax policies are fundamental in the final choice for an investor wishing to invest in another country. Foreign direct investment attracts direct tax to host country which can have implications on economic growth and development. This paper focused on eclectic theory of taxation. It specifically examine issues of foreign direct investment, direct tax and eclectic theory. It is conceptual review of literature It is a library type of research through conceptual review of literature. Information used were obtained from secondary source of collection like journal articles, textbooks, seminar papers, unpublished theses, conference papers etc. The theoretical framework has proved that eclectic theory centred on three critical issues in terms of ownership, location and internalization (OLI) advantages for foreign direct investment to take place in another country. Extant studies examined showed that governments of countries create enabling environment especially in areas of tax policies in order to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). It therefore recommended that government should give more tax incentives like investment allowance, capital allowance, tax holidays and pioneer companies relief especially to foreign investors in order to attract more foreign direct investment and direct tax revenues in the long run towards economic growth in Nigeria

    This study was carried out to assess the effect of corruption on the socio-economic development of Lokoja, Kogi state. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study. A survey method was adopted for the study, and 399 sample respondents were selected and administered a questionnaire to obtain primary data. The data was analyzed using frequency and percentage. The results obtained showed that, to a very high extent, corruption is the bane of infrastructural decay in Lokoja, Kogi state. Based on the findings, it was recommended that to tame the surge of corruption in Lokoja, Kogi State, and the general population should be re-orientated to a better value system. This is because Lokoja, Kogi state has for long been living on the survival of the fittest and the grab-whatever-comes-your-way mentality

    IMPACT OF MONETARY POLICY ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA (1986 -2019)

    The growing importance of monetary policy has made its effectiveness in influencing economic growth a priority to most governments. Therefore the study investigates the impact of monetary policy on economic growth in Nigeria from 1986 to 2019, by using interest rate variables for monetary policy and GDP as a proxy for economic growth. The study applied the autoregressive distributive lag (ARDL) model to analyze the data. The result shows that interest rate and domestic credit have a statistically significant impact on economic growth in Nigeria while the exchange rate on the other hand has a statically non-significant effect on economic growth. It is therefore recommends that the central bank of Nigeria should continue to use appropriate monetary policy instruments to support Nigeria’s economic growth taking into account economic and political conditions in the country

    COMPETENCY-BASED LEARNING AND TAKE-HOME BENEFITS FROM ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN NIGERIA

    This paper underscores the place of competency-based learning as an approach in the development of entrepreneurial behaviour. It discusses the concept of entrepreneurial competencies which is geared towards developing necessary skills for empowering learners for effective teamwork management, and be able to establish and run an enterprise successfully based on identified opportunities. When fully grounded in these skills, citizens would be empowered to be self reliant, and be obsessed with self[1]employment for job creation. Anchored on qualitative research methodology, the paper looked at the concept of competency-based learning as an approach, and its’ relevance to entrepreneurial behaviour as it affects teamwork management and opportunity recognition competency skills with theoretical framework underpinned in skills acquisition theory. Findings of the study revealed that many businesses in Nigeria face difficulties because the necessary manpower to provide the right type of skills, knowledge, and competencies is inadequate. The study concluded that competency[1]based learning as an approach in revamping the economy is indispensable. It is therefore, recommended that Management of organizations should give their teams the autonomy to operate freely, and there should be enabling atmosphere to discover opportunities
