Survey of "Period Poverty'' at Miyagi University

    Get PDF
This study aimed to clarify the challenges faced by female students at Miyagi University regarding "period poverty," particularly focusing on the economic aspects thought to be affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. An online, unsolicited questionnaire survey was conducted among 1,258 female students enrolled at Miyagi University. The data collection period was 8 weeks from May 2023. Data analysis was performed using simple tabulation and x2 test and residual analysis using Microsoft Excel. The Research Ethics Committee of the University of Miyagi approved this study( No. 1083,20 22). The number of valid responses was 411 (valid response collection rate: 32.7%). Of the 40 (9.7%) respondents who had difficulty in purchasing or obtaining sanitary products, 21 (52.5%) reported symptoms such as "vulvar itching'' as "often" or "sometimes" experienced and 31 (77.5%) reported "soiling clothes with menstrual blood." Those who paid for their sanitary products experienced significantly more difficulty in purchasing and obtaining sanitary products than those whose parents paid for them. The most predominant needs for support regarding menstruation were "Reduction of the financial burden" (256 [63.5%] respondents) and "Availability of sanitary napkins at the university''(268 [66.5%] respondents). Those who had difficulty in purchasing and ob血ningsanitary products were suffering not only from financial but also physical problems, indicating that support is required in terms of health maintenance and management for colleges students. Those who paid for their sanitary products had difficulties in purchasing and obtaining them, and >60% of the students desired to reduce the cost burden of obtaining sanitary products. Thus, it is necessary to consider providing support for reducing the financial burden of purchasing sanitary products.departmental bulletin pape

    看護学生間の協同学習による自己学習機会の創出に向けた実践報告ーシミュレータモデルを用いた血圧測定技術の学習プログラムー

    Get PDF
Objective: This SimMaster Program Basic, an extra-curricular educational activity for sophomore nursing students had three objectives: firstly, to enhance the accuracy of blood pressure measurements, a fundamental skill among vital sign assessments; secondly, to create mechanisms that encourage the spontaneous generation of learning opportunities outside of class; and thirdly, to enrich university life through cross-grade interactions. Methods: Eleven sophomore nursing students applied to participate in this program. The program, conducted over six sessions, was divided into three components: a "Knowledge Program" focused on the principles of blood pressure measurement, a "Skills Program" centered on the use of simulator models, and a" Special Program" consisting of a lecture on clinical blood pressure measurement by practicing nurses. Additionally, a final test was administered to assess the students' knowledge, skills, and attitudes regarding blood pressure measurement. Results: Participating students deepened their knowledge of blood pressure measurement principles, reaffirmed their understanding and skills in conducting measurements, and gained numerous interactions from their involvement with one another. On the other hand, challenges such as the time constraints of extracurricular activities, the inadequate establishment of fundamental knowledge and skills, and the continuity of the program emerged as issues. Discussion: Through this program, students were encouraged to deepen their own understanding by teaching each other and to foster an attitude of proactive learning. It is necessary to support the use of learning resources that allow for repetitive study and to promote cooperative learning.departmental bulletin pape

Exploring the expression of "food" in picture books through text mining

    Get PDF
Picture books are typical resources used in dietary education for children, and their effectiveness has many possibilities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the "words" used in picture books depicting "food" using text mining. KH Coder 3. was used for text mining, and three types of analysis were conducted: the frequency list of words, hierarchical cluster analysis, and co-occurrence network. The results showed that in addition to basic words such as "say" and "eat," some words that remind us of home, such as "mother," "father" and "house," were used frequently. In addition, it was found that picture books depicted scenes in which the characters "eat" and "make" together with other characters, and "eat" "delicious" food with an awareness of "taste" and "smell," which is expected to contribute to the natural development of a rich image of "food" among children.departmental bulletin pape
