    Cooper-Norcross Inventory of Preferences (C-NIP) : Psychometric characteristics of the Czech version

    Objective. The Cooper-Norcross Inventory of Preferences (C-NIP) is a new and promising tool for measuring clients’ preferences regarding psychotherapy. However, the psychometric evaluation of this measure is scarce in general and completely missing for the Czech adaptation of the measure. This study aimed to test the Czech version of the C-NIP factor structure, test its measurement invariance, and establish cut points. Methods. N = 772 adults answered the C-NIP in an online survey. Confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses were used to test the factor structure and assess the C-NIP measurement invariance between men and women and across several levels of psychotherapy experience. Results. The original four-factor model was not supported. Instead, a five-factor model was suggested that fit the data adequately and was strictly invariant with respect to gender and levels of experience with psychotherapy. Conclusions. The Czech C-NIP can be considered a valid and reliable measure of clients’ preferences regarding psychotherapy. The replication of the new factor model is needed

    Incident Investigation: From Packets to Graph-Based Analysis

    Analysis of network traffic allows us to explore events in the monitored network (even retrospectively). It benefits from the fact that it is almost impossible to maliciously affect the captured data (as opposed to system logs, for example). Therefore, it is a reliable source that suitably complements cyber incident investigation. The analysis of network traffic is currently performed by the use of tools such as Wireshark or Arkime, which allow manual data browsing, filtering, aggregation, and provide interactive visualizations but don't account for the fact that the human brain perceives the data as associations/graphs. This interactive keynote will show you how network traffic is typically analyzed today and how it can be adapted to human thinking by using a graph database. In the introductory part, you will see what a typical network attack looks like, how it can be analyzed using Wireshark, and what the advantages and disadvantages of today's analysis techniques are. We will then show you how to transform network data into a format suitable for a graph database while at the same time preserving the natural perception of network traffic. In the final part of the keynote, we will introduce the Granef toolkit (https://granef.csirt.muni.cz/) and use it to analyze the given data. Through simple tutorial exercises, participants will have the opportunity to explore graph-based analysis on their own and gain new insights into network traffic data

    This article contributes to this discussion in three ways. First, it undertakes the first academic case study of the Loulo mine in Mali. Utilizing a variety of sources, including United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Filings, Canadian National Instrument 43-101 filings relating to Mineral Disclosure in Canada, annual and quarterly company reports, non-governmental organization (NGO) and human rights reports, and other secondary literature, this article presents a broad overview of the Loulo mine. In doing so, it challenges the corporate narrative that the Loulo mine has been a laudable contributor to sustainable development in Mali.This article contributes to this discussion in three ways.     Toward Graph-Based Network Traffic Analysis and Incident Investigation

    Even though network traffic is typically encrypted, and it is almost impossible to look into the content of transmitted data, the analysis of metadata and characteristics of individual connections still plays an essential role in an incident or criminal investigation. In recent years, we have seen a significant development of various approaches for storing and analyz-ing large-scale data, including graph databases. Such an approach offers great potential for expert analysts performing digital forensics and network traffic investigation, as it corresponds to their natural perception of the data. In addition, it allows a simple connection of different types and sources of data, which represents the primary focus of our research

    Long-Term High-Temperature Stress Impacts on Embryo and Seed Development in Brassica napus

    Brassica napus (rapeseed) is the second most important oilseed crop worldwide. Global rise in average ambient temperature and extreme weather severely impact rapeseed seed yield. However, fewer research explained the phenotype changes caused by moderate-to-high temperatures in rapeseed. To investigate these events, we determined the long-term response of three spring cultivars to different temperature regimes (21/18°C, 28/18°C, and 34/18°C) mimicking natural temperature variations. The analysis focused on the plant appearance, seed yield, quality and viability, and embryo development. Our microscopic observations suggest that embryonic development is accelerated and defective in high temperatures. Reduced viable seed yield at warm ambient temperature is due to a reduced fertilization rate, increased abortion rate, defective embryonic development, and pre-harvest sprouting. Reduced auxin levels in young seeds and low ABA and auxin levels in mature seeds may cause embryo pattern defects and reduced seed dormancy, respectively. Glucosinolates and oil composition measurements suggest reduced seed quality. These identified cues help understand seed thermomorphogenesis and pave the way to developing thermoresilient rapeseed

    Discursive Construction of Affective Polarization in Brexit Britain : Opinion-Based Identities and Out-Group Differentiation

    This chapter deals with the pertinent question of how Leavers and Remainers, as opinion-based groups, communicate, share and exchange their perceptions, cognitions and emotions in regard to out-groups. More specifically, drawing on the discourse-historical approach to critical discourse studies, it investigates which topics, discursive strategies and linguistic devices have been employed by British politicians to construct Leave and Remain identities in a sense of out-group antagonism(s) in contra-distinction to the given in-group. By looking at how Leavers and Remainers discursively construct the “other”, the inquiry provides an empirical example of (a part of) collective identity formation and meaning-making in the process of Brexit, and adds to the literature on growing affective polarization along Brexit lines in the UK
