Die Bestudering van die Vakgeskiedenis – ’n Christelike Perspektief
It has previously been argued that although one cannot speak of “Christian Mathematics” as such, it is definitely possible to have a Christian perspective on the mathematical sciences. Moreover, it is also possible to teach these subjects in a Christian way. As has been illustrated, one methodology of doing this is by using as framework the so-called viewpoint of science in context. However, some questions might be raised concerning this methodology; especially whether one has in fact succeeded in bringing a Christian perspective on the subject or whether one has only succeeded in giving a perspective next to the subject. The possibility of introducing the history of the subject – specifically Classical Mechanics in the present case – into the subject in order to give a sharper Christian perspective is discussed in this paper. The thesis is that introducing the history of the subject into the subject will help attaining a better perspective on the subject
Prediking van die Ou Testament in die Christelike Erediens
In his interpretation of an Old Testament text, the Christian interpreter must regard the fact of the salvation of Jesus Christ. However, Christian preachers are often quilty of forcing Old Testament texts into a Christian meaning. A legitimate way of discovering the Christian meaning of Old Testament texts is to start with the contextual theology of an Old Testament text. The Christian interpretation of the “original message” must take place in the light of the historical movement of the concerned Old Testament theological line towards its “fulfilment” in the New Testament. The excegetical approaches of Young and Wildberger towards Isaiah 7: 14, as well as Haasbroek’s interpretation of Exodus 19 and the well known work of Bruce Wilkenson on the prayer of Yabes (1 Chronicles 4: 9 - 10) are evaluated in the light of the indicated historical and contextual theological approach to Old Testament texts
Hoe Ons Sin Maak van die Opvoedingswerklikheid
Hermeneutics is the art, skill or method applied by scientists for understanding and interpreting reality or aspects of reality, including education. Important though this skill or method in itself might be, it cannot be regarded as belonging to the essence of being human as, for instance, Gadamer seemed to think. It is simply a scientific method by means of which, among others, educationalists strive to make sense of what their senses reveal to them about created reality. In the process of understanding and interpreting God’s will for reality, they naturally also make sense of their own existence. They apply insights, for instance in the lawful structure of creation, to their task of making a home for themselves in creation. Application of the hermeneutic method requires mastery of a number of theoretical insights and techniques, including the schemata associated with the hermeneutic circle or spiral
