EXPERIMENTAL AND STATISTICAL EXAMINATION OF THE SURFACE QUALITY OF ORGANIC PLANT-BASED FILAMENT MATERIALS USED IN 3D PRINTERS

    Get PDF
Nowadays, additive manufacturing methods have started to become popular. The fact that it does not produce waste material such as machining methods and does not require molds as in classical plastic production methods makes these methods popular. In addition, the variety of materials used is increasing. Polylactic acid (PLA) material, produced from commonly used materials such as corn starch, is a plastic produced from organic materials and harmless to humans and the environment. In addition, the newly produced STH-coded material is produced on an organic basis and is harmless to the environment and humans. The advantages of STH material over PLA material are that it can work at higher temperatures and increase mechanical strength. In additive manufacturing methods, final product quality is generally controlled in terms of surface roughness. Because, in additive manufacturing, the molten material covers the surface in the form of a pattern, creating a surface with a certain roughness. For this reason, in this study, cube-shaped samples were produced by using PLA and STH materials, selecting three different variable production parameters (material type, filling shape, and extruder temperature), and determining a total of 18 test parameters at three different levels. After production, surface roughness values were measured from the upper surface. In line with these values, the Taguchi L18 experimental setup was applied and the best production parameters were examined in terms of surface quality. An equation that will predict the surface quality to be obtained with the selected parameters was derived through regression analysis. As a result of this study, the surface quality can be reduced below 1 micron surface roughness values in additive manufacturing and the surface quality is almost close to plastic injection molding

In 1940, the Baltic States were occupied as a result of an armed seizure by the USSR, followed by annexation. Prior to the occupation, the Baltic region had a strong agricultural sector. After the occupation, private farms (homesteads) and small farmers’ cooperatives were forcibly merged into collective farms (kolkhozes) and state farms (sovkhozes), which were forms of collective farming in the countryside of the Soviet Union and other Eastern Bloc satellite states in Europe. Situated on the periphery and comprising the ethnic Baltic populations where they were the numerical majority, the kolkhozes became enclaves where, despite numerous repressive reforms and the utopian management of collective farming, the connection with the pre-occupation national sentiment, commemoration of the cultural and historical code of independent Latvia, remained unbroken throughout the decades of occupation. A significant role in the transmission of these codes and the formation of a decolonial atmosphere was played by nonfiction texts, or documentary prose, devoted to the life (and critique) of kolkhozes and sovkhozes by several important Latvian writers, published in the 1970s and 1980s. These texts coexisted with (1) the national imaginary - ethnographic and cultural-historical images, facts, personalities, and events that highlighted the social and cultural life of kolkhozes and sovkhozes before the occupation, and (2) the mimicry of the Soviet occupation era, or ideological tributes - references to Soviet ideological attributes and political doctrines. One of the most prominent writers who skilfully integrated the national imaginary into the texts dedicated to kolkhozes, or kolkhoz narratives, was Imants Ziedonis (1933–2013)

SELF-COMPASSION IN A PEDAGOGICAL PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM

    Get PDF
This case study is based on the phenomenological-qualitative paradigm. The study aims to examine how self-compassion may be reflected in lecturers\u27 experiences in a pedagogical partnership program (PPP) at an academic college of education. A pedagogical partnership program focuses on learning-teaching processes between faculty and students at academies. The participants in this research were three lecturers at Kaye Academic College of Education. Our research tools included documenting dialogues held between students and lecturers at the end of each lesson, and reflective diaries written by each lecturer. The data were analyzed using a qualitative content analysis method based on open content analysis. The analysis connected to the self-compassion for its various components. Institutions of higher education that operate pedagogical partnership programs may consider incorporating compassion practices into their programs. They may greatly benefit all partners in both personal and professional respects

FEELING DIFFERENT IN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES? WHAT DO POLYGLOTS SAY ABOUT IT?

    Get PDF
This study focuses on multicultural polyglots who have lived in different countries and languages throughout their lives, maintaining strong ties to multiple countries. It is a qualitative study based on semi-structured interviews. Forty-seven adult polyglots from various countries were interviewed. Participants speak between 4 and 35 languages and use several languages daily. Among the questions asked, one explores self-perception in different languages: do polyglots feel different when switching languages? While this question is not new in scientific literature, studies often focus on bilinguals or trilinguals. I propose to examine the perceptions of adult polyglots: do they feel different when using different languages? I will only analyze cases where mastery of the language is not an issue. Many respondents report feeling the same regardless of the language they use. I analyze the reasons provided for feeling different or not

AI RECOGNITION OF JAPANESE SIGN LANGUAGE AND ITS APPLICATION

    Get PDF
We are researching Machine Recognition of Japanese Sign Language using deep learning technology. JSL consists of the main parameters i.e., handshape, location, and movement of hands, otherwise non- manual markers such as facial expressions, posture, and others. JSL has unique morphemes called CL=classifiers, and some signs using fingerspelling. Understanding JSL needs recognizing all these elements, which makes the research entangled. We limit the first target as a simple sign and a simple sentence. In our research, we use Conformer (a combination of CNN and Transformer) and CTC, which are used generally in speech recognition. The system learned 170 types of signs with each 100 tokens. The correct answer rate (Accuracy) was about 95%. For sign language sentences, unlike a sign word recognition, the problem is the transition between words which make the sign recognition harder. Our system recognized over 58% for the sign sentences with 96 types of signs

EFFICIENCY OF THE ADVERTISING USE OF CARTOON MASCOTS IN THE LUXURY FOOD INDUSTRY

    Get PDF
This paper deals with the use and effect of cartoon mascots in the field of the luxury food industry. The aim of the paper is to check the efficiency of the artefact. For this purpose, the paper is divided into two areas. The first section deals with the design and effect of cartoon mascots on the child consumer in order to find out how and in what way companies in the luxury food industry influence the perception and purchasing decisions of the target group. For this purpose, secondary data from specialist literature in the fields of marketing, economics, graphics / design, pedagogy and psychology is used to prove the efficiency of the packing medium on the child market. The second area of the paper deals with the target group of adults and is intended to answer the question whether, how and to what extent the emotional relationships of the test subjects to the mascots established in childhood have withstood and had an impact on brand loyalty, as well as the perception and purchase decision of adult consumers. For this purpose, primary data will be used, which will provide the data that can be used to verify or falsify the hypotheses made about the efficiency of the medium by means of an online survey. The underlying knowledge from the first area of the bachelor thesis was used to narrow down the research framework of the survey and to design the structure and orientation of the questions. As a result of the survey, it was shown that the efficiency and effectiveness of cartoon mascots, in the field of the luxury food industry, could be demonstrated in 3 out of 4 of the hypotheses presented, although it should be noted that the fourth hypothesis could be at least partially verified with the available data. While the representative qualities of the mascots as spokespersons of their brands, the emotional attachment of the test subjects, as well as the influence on their perception and purchase decision with regard to the mascots depicted could be demonstrated, the increased consumer behavior of the products triggered by the mascot could not be proven without exception. It turned out that several factors play a role in this area and it is not possible to say with absolute certainty which of the factors achieves which effect. Accordingly, it would be instructive to continue research in this area in order to gain more precise insights into the relationships between the individual factors and to find out what role cartoon mascots ultimately play in this process

TRADITIONS OF FOLLOWING FAIRY TALES FOR CHILDREN IN LITHUANIAN CULTURE

    Get PDF
The children\u27s story-telling discussed in this article is an important and deep tradition in Lithuanian culture, with roots in ancient times. Fairy tales not only enrich children\u27s imagination but also transmit values, moral lessons and the cultural heritage of the nation. Many Lithuanian families have a tradition of following fairy tales at bedtime, which is not only a soothing ritual but also a way to strengthen family ties. A study of primary school teachers found that the most common bedtime stories were read by mum and grandma, and sometimes by dad and grandpa. Regular exposure to fairy tales has a positive impact on the development of children\u27s language skills in several key ways. Firstly, fairy tales expand children\u27s vocabulary by introducing them to new concepts and contexts that may not be present in everyday language. Secondly, listening to fairy tales promotes children\u27s mastery of grammatical structures, as the texts are often rich and varied in sentence structure. Thirdly, fairy tales improve children\u27s understanding of narrative structure by teaching them to follow the plot, identify the main characters and understand the causal links between events

    Get PDF
The emperor fish is a reef fish that constitutes the main catch of traditional fishermen in Wakatobi National Park (WNP). This study aimed to analyze the size structure and exploitation rate of emperor fish. The research was conducted on Kaledupa Island, WNP. The study used a survey method, identifying fishermen\u27s catches and measuring the length and weight of the emperor fish found at the study locations. Data analysis used description analysis for measuring fish diversity; length-weight relationship (LWR) of fish; and measurement of the fish growth indicators. The results indicated that fish diversity in the two study locations (Balasuna and Tampara) was nearly identical. The species of emperor fish found were Lethrinus harak, L. ornatus, L. variegatus, L. lentjan, L. erythropterus, and L. genivittatus. Of the five types of fish found there, was L. harak (505 ind), 210 L. variegatus and 172 L. ornatus. L. harak was the longest in size at 29.5 cm, L. variegatus at 29 cm, and L. ornatus at 19 cm. Analysis of the LWR conducted on the L. harak, L. ornatus, and L. variegatus species indicated that the growth pattern of the three fish is negative allometric (a < b), meaning that their growth in length exceeded their growth in weight. The growth indicators (K, L∞, t0) of emperor fish in WNP when compared with previous research are not significantly different. In order to maintain the sustainability of fish resources, there is a need to increase fishermen\u27s education and improve supervision of fishing activities
