Objective This study aims to understand the conflicts that nurses in convalescent rehabilitation wards experience with rehabilitation therapists and how they deal with them. Methods Semi-structured interviews were conducted with ten staff nurses who had worked in a convalescent rehabilitation ward for five years or more and had experience as day-shift leaders. Data were analyzed qualitatively using a descriptive approach. Results The types of conflicts that nurses felt with rehabilitation therapists included “different views about necessary approaches to rehabilitation,” “differences in the sense of responsibility for rehabilitation risks,” “lack of shared understanding of patient perspectives,” and “insufficient mutual understanding required for effective collaboration.” The strategies employed to manage these conflicts were: “providing information to persuade therapists,” “seeking assistance from superiors,” “accepting the situation despite the reality of the conflict,” and “appealing to the viewpoint of valuing patient perspectives.” Discussion Conflicts between nurses and therapists were found to be caused by profession-based differences of opinion on how to interact with patients, and a lack of understanding of each other’s expertise and work owing to varying educational attainments. It is important to understand divergent professional perspectives and roles and appreciate the values of other professions.departmental bulletin pape
