Replication Data for: Split Nitrogen Application to Soil Improves Corn Agronomic Performance and Nitrogen Use Efficiency

    No full text
Corn (Zea mays L.) production requires substantial nitrogen (N) during the grain-filling reproductive stages. Delaying split N application until the silking stage (R1) may improve agronomic performance and reduce environmental N losses. This study evaluated the effects of split and reduced N applications on corn growth, yield, soil residual nitrogen, and nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) under rainfed conditions in Central Texas over two contrasting seasons. Ten treatments were tested, including split applications ranging from 100:0 to 50:50 (planting:R1) and reduced rates at 50% and 25% of the full N recommendation. In 2021, with adequate rainfall, split applications had no significant effect on aboveground biomass or grain yield, although delaying 50% of N to R1 reduced leaf area index (LAI) and chlorophyll content. In 2022, under severe drought, overall plant performance declined. However, reducing N to 50% did not affect biomass or yield compared to full rates, but improved N uptake and agronomic efficiency while reducing residual soil nitrate. The 25% N rate significantly reduced corn growth and yield. These findings suggest that applying 50% of N at planting allows flexibility to adjust remaining applications based on in-season weather. Adaptive N strategies can maintain productivity, enhance NUE, and reduce environmental risk in dryland corn systems under variable climatic conditions

Replication Data for: Cognitive Bias Heterogeneity

    No full text
This data and code can be used to replicate the main analysis for "Who Exhibits Cognitive Biases? Mapping Heterogeneity in Attention, Interpretation, and Rumination in Depression." Of note- to protect this dataset from deidentification consistent with best practices, we have removed the zip code variable and binned age. The analysis code may need to be adjusted slightly to account for this, and the results may very slightly from the ones in the manuscript as a result

COI Policy Scoping Review Data Set

    No full text
This dataset includes seven tables as described in the dataset snapshot. The data are associated with a scoping review that aimed to examine published, peer-reviewed empirical analyses of policy mechanisms designed to address industry sponsorship of research studies, author industry affiliation, and author conflicts of interest at any stage of the biomedical research process. 6385 articles were screened, and data was extracted for 81 included studies

Final Report: Source Water Study for the Hamilton Pool Area, Western Travis County, Texas

    No full text
The Hamilton Pool Source Water Protection Study investigated the crucial groundwater resources that sustain the existing domestic water supply, and the unique ecological and recreational areas of Hamilton Pool Preserve and Reimers Ranch Park in western Travis County, Texas. These natural landmarks rely heavily on groundwater, which is increasingly threatened by a growing population, rising demand for water supplies (through pumping), and the impacts of a changing climate, including increased severe droughts. The study enabled the Southwestern Travis County Groundwater Conservation District to create an aquifer management zone and provide science-based recommendations that will inform and help guide policies and strategies aimed at preserving the region’s groundwater resources

With what operative models, local and imported, does the Latin American plastic artist face his circumstances; and, with what sorts of critical feedback is he faced?

Part 1: The panel opens with humorous and candid remarks about the complexity of defining Latin American artistic models, touching on issues of cultural continuity, criticism, and identity, while introducing key speakers. Participants emphasized the diverse and hybrid nature of Latin American art, shaped by historical, social, and political realities, and the tension between imported models and native traditions. Aracy Amaral explored how local context, popular culture, and evolving artistic codes influence creative expression in Latin America today. Part 2: Latin American art’s meaning is framed within the Western concept of modern art, which arose by integrating so-called “primitive” aesthetics and breaking local cultural norms. While modern art’s primary function is aesthetic and self-reflective, Latin American artists face a unique tension between adopting universal modernist models and expressing their own evolving cultural identities amid social and political realities. This results in art that is both influenced by global modernism and deeply engaged with local circumstances, rejecting imposed uniformity and emphasizing continuous identity search rather than fixed nationalism. Part 3: The panel centers on the complex role of art criticism and cultural identity in Latin America. Dore Ashton argues that critics should not prescribe artistic direction but rather offer a broad intellectual context, while others, including Manrique, Felguérez, and Amaral, debate the limitations of Latin American art criticism—particularly its lack of infrastructure, its testimonial rather than influential nature, and its dependency on external validation. The conversation ultimately highlights the tension between imported models and local realities, emphasizing the artist’s ambivalent position between Western influence and Latin American identity Part 4: The central tension is between adopting international art trends and developing a distinct Latin American artistic language rooted in the region’s social realities and political consciousness. While figures like Marta Traba advocate for an “art of resistance” as a response to cultural imperialism, others debate whether critics should propose models or merely interpret them, and whether shifts in artistic style (like that of Julio Le Parc) should be judged ideologically or aesthetically. Ultimately, the debate underscores the persistent question of what defines "Latin American art" and whether such a definition should exist at all. Part 5: This panel addressed key tensions in Latin American contemporary art, particularly the distinctions between art criticism and art history, the urgent need for more comprehensive information and documentation, and the complex question of Latin American identity. Participants emphasized the lack of cross-national knowledge among experts, called for efforts like a visual catalog of contemporary Latin American art, and debated issues such as the São Paulo Biennial's Eurocentrism and the ambiguous identity of Chicano artists. Tamayo closed the session reflecting on criticism, revolutionary art, and mestizo identity, advocating for self-criticism over propaganda and reaffirming pride in Indigenous heritage

Part I: Comprehensive coverage of key developments in Latin America, focusing on Brazil's political transition, economic struggles, and international relations. It discusses the impending replacement of Brazil's military dictator, economic challenges including inflation and heavy price increases, and Brazil's dependence on imported oil. Reports of potential military invasions by Brazil in neighboring countries emphasize regional tensions. Part II: Insights into the energy crisis underscore the challenges faced by various Latin American countries and criticism towards transnational oil companies. Editorial opinions highlight the need for a renewed social pact to address global poverty and advocate for alternative growth models. Responses to the crisis include suggestions for direct negotiations with oil-producing countries and reflections on the geopolitical implications. Overall, the review portrays the multifaceted challenges and complex dynamics shaping Latin American societies amidst the global oil crisis. Files include CSVs of the annotated transcriptions and lists of places, people, organizations, subjects, and media sources mentioned in the radio program
