“Una visión más amplia”: cooperativismo y mujeres, una lectura desde la experiencia de Santa Fe

This article synthesizes the results of a report on the participation of women in cooperatives and mutuals in the province of Santa Fe. It was prepared on the basis of information obtained from a survey carried out collaboratively between the Provincial Directorate of Social Economy, Family Farming and Entrepreneurship of the Government of the Province of Santa Fe, the Association Council of the Province of Santa Fe and the Cooperative Institute of Higher Education (ICES). On this basis, the main conclusions related, on the one hand, to sizing the presence of women in the cooperatives and mutuals of Santa Fe, in particular, in government tasks, are presented. On the other hand, to describe both the perception of the role of women in these entities and the need to have gender policies.El presente artículo sintetiza los resultados de un informe relativo a la participación de las mujeres en cooperativas y mutuales de la provincia de Santa Fe. Fue elaborado sobre la base de información obtenida de una encuesta realizada colaborativamente entre la Dirección Provincial de Economía Social, Agricultura Familiar y Emprendedorismo del Gobierno de la Provincia de Santa Fe, el Consejo de Asociativismo de la Provincia de Santa Fe y el Instituto Cooperativo de Enseñanza Superior (ICES). Sobre esa base, se presentan las principales conclusiones vinculadas a, por un lado, dimensionar la presencia de las mujeres en las cooperativas y mutuales de Santa Fe, en particular, en las tareas de gobierno. Por otro lado, a describir tanto la percepción sobre el rol de las mujeres en esas entidades como la necesidad de diagramar políticas de género. 

#AbortoLegal2020 en Argentina. Estrategias de movilización on y offline en pandemia

At the end of 2020, the Argentine feminist movement achieved the long-awaited goal of legalizing abortion, with regional and global resonances in the organizational actions of other women's movements as well as in the media. This paper analyzes the main offline and online mobilization strategies led by the National Campaign for the Right to Legal, Safe and Free Abortion in the process that led to the approval of the law, with its epicenter in the social appropriation of the Instagram and Twitter platforms by feminist activists. Through the collection of data from both platforms and the observation of accounts, different moments are distinguished throughout 2020, characterized first by an intense online mobilization, with cyberactivism according to the slogan #QuedateEnCasa (#StayAtHome) towards a progressive recovery of the traditional public space, with imaginative tactics in the framework of care measures for preventive isolation and skillful achievements regarding the social appropriation of digital technologies.A fines del 2020, el movimiento feminista argentino obtuvo el tan ansiado objetivo de la legalización del aborto, con resonancias regionales y globales en las acciones organizativas de otros espacios feministas como en los medios de comunicación. En este trabajo se analizan las principales estrategias de movilización off y online lideradas por la Campaña Nacional por el Derecho al Aborto Legal, Seguro y Gratuito en el proceso que desembocó en la aprobación de la ley, con epicentro en la apropiación social de las plataformas Instagram y Twitter por parte de las activistas feministas. Mediante la recolección de datos de ambas plataformas y la observación de cuentas se distinguen distintos momentos a lo largo de 2020, caracterizados primero por una intensa movilización online, con un ciberactivismo acorde a la consigna #QuedateEnCasa, hacia una progresiva recuperación del espacio público tradicional, con tácticas imaginativas en el marco de medidas de cuidado por el aislamiento preventivo, y logros habilidosos respecto de la apropiación social de tecnologías digitales.&nbsp

Criminalización y estigmatización de la protesta feminista en México desde la perspectiva de las colectivas activistas

In recent years, the feminist movement in Mexico has had a greater presence in the public space in various cities of the country. Parallel to this phenomenon, there has been a criminalization and stigmatization of feminist protest in which the State plays an important role, while society and the media play a secondary role. This study includes an analysis of the dynamics in which the collective action of women against the eradication of violence in Mexico has been criminalized and stigmatized by various actors through 11 interviews with Mexican feminist collectives and a Twitter Space on criminalization of protest conducted by "Somos el medio", which is a critical and independent news media on the Internet, produced in March 2022. The main findings point to the diversification of types of criminalization by the State, and of stigmatization by the media and users of socio-digital network sites.En los últimos años, el movimiento feminista en Méjico ha tenido una mayor presencia en el espacio público en diversas ciudades del país. En paralelo a este fenómeno se ha presentado una criminalización y estigmatización de la protesta feminista donde el Estado juega un rol importante, mientras que la sociedad y los medios lo hacen en un segundo momento. El presente estudio comprende un análisis de las dinámicas en las que la acción colectiva de las mujeres contra la erradicación de la violencia en Méjico, ha sido criminalizada y estigmatizada, por diversos actores mediante 11 entrevistas efectuadas a colectivas feministas mexicanas y un Twitter Space sobre criminalización de la protesta realizado por “Somos el medio”, un medio informativo crítico e independiente en Internet, realizado en marzo de 2022. Los principales hallazgos apuntan a la diversificación de los modos de criminalización por parte del Estado, y de la estigmatización por parte de los medios y los usuarios de redes sociodigitales

El activismo de celebridades desde el Sur Global: el caso de @actricesargentinas en Instagram

Feminist activism in the digital environment has grown in recent years in Argentina. Several historical and new groups have turned to the networks to make their demands visible and amplify them. One of them is @actrices.argentinas, a collective that since its digital organisation in 2018 has accompanied struggles and led denunciations. This manuscript sets out to reflect on the theoretical postulate under which the activism of this group can be studied, and to do so it carries out a qualitative content analysis of its publications on Instagram, from its creation until the approval of the IVE Law. The findings indicate that neither the postulate of celebrity activism nor that of celebrity feminism, both originating from the academy of the Global North, manage to be frameworks from which to study this specific case. Therefore, it is asked whether it is not necessary to start thinking about new theoretical approaches that allow for the development of other dimensions that –born in the light of what is happening in the Global South– manage to examine the forms of activism that are specific to that context.El activismo feminista en el entorno digital ha crecido en los últimos años en la Argentina. Nuevas e históricas agrupaciones se han volcado a las redes para visibilizar y amplificar sus demandas. Una de ellas es @actrices.argentinas, un colectivo que desde su organización digital en 2018 ha acompañado luchas y protagonizado denuncias. Este manuscrito se propone reflexionar bajo qué postulado teórico puede estudiarse el activismo de este grupo y, para ello, lleva a cabo un análisis de contenido cualitativo de sus publicaciones en Instagram, desde su creación hasta la aprobación de la Ley IVE. Los resultados indican que ni el postulado de activismo de celebridades ni el de feminismo de celebridades, ambos oriundos de la academia del Norte Global, consiguen ser marcos desde los cuales estudiar este caso en concreto. Por ello se pregunta si no es preciso comenzar a pensar en nuevas aproximaciones teóricas que permitan desarrollar otras dimensiones que –nacidas a la luz de lo que acontece en el Sur Global– consigan examinar las formas de activismo propias de ese contexto

Las mujeres hablan, los hombres dirigen: conversaciones políticas frente al hashtivismo feminista en #25N y #AbortoLegal2020

We present the results of a qualitative study of the political conversations generated towards the Latin American feminist hashtivism in 2020 according to two visibility configurations: one that used the vernacular languages ​​of sociodigital networks and the one that resisted algorithmic power through collective action (Sued et al. 2022). In this study, we try to understand what kind of conversations could be found in these visibility configurations from a non-normative approach to political dialogue, recognizing the value of daily and affective conversation on matters of common interest (Graham 2015). To do so, we selected highly visible videos created in 2020 in the hashtags #25N and #AbortoLegal2020 (#LegalAbortion2020) two on YouTube and two on TikTok– and analyzed the 50 comments with the highest engagement from each production. The results reveal that vernacular visibility tends to build consensus from a superficial understanding of the feminist agenda. Instead, algorithmic resistance triggers political disputes that try to limit the advancement of feminists' demands. In both types of visibility and on both platforms, men moderate the conversation even when they present less participation. Despite this, vernacular visibility is presented as an opportunity of expression for women not necessarily participants in feminist activism, who share testimonies of violence.Presentamos los resultados de un estudio cualitativo sobre la conversación política que desencadenó el hashtivismo feminista latinoamericano en el 2020 frente a dos configuraciones de visibilidad: la que usó lenguas vernáculas de redes sociodigitales y la que resistió el poder algorítmico por medio de la acción colectiva (Sued et al 2022). Nos preguntamos qué tipo de conversaciones podemos encontrar en dichas configuraciones desde una aproximación no normativa del diálogo político que reconoce el valor de la conversación cotidiana y afectiva sobre asuntos de interés común (Graham 2015). Para ello seleccionamos videos de alta visibilidad creados en el 2020 en los hashtags #25N y #AbortoLegal2020 –dos en YouTube, dos en TikTok– y analizamos los 50 comentarios de mayor engagement de cada producción. Los resultados revelan que la visibilidad vernácula tiende a construir consenso a partir de una comprensión superficial de la agenda feminista. En cambio, la resistencia algorítmica desencadena disputas políticas que tratan de limitar el avance de dicha agenda. En ambos tipos de visibilidad y plataformas, los hombres moderan la conversación aún al presentar menor participación. No obstante, la visibilidad vernácula genera espacios de expresión para mujeres que no necesariamente participan en el activismo feminista y que comparten sus testimonios de violencia.&nbsp

Kathleen Lynch is Professor of Equality Studies (Emerita) at University College Dublin, UCD. She played a leading role in establishing the UCD Equality Studies Centre (1990) and the UCD School of Social Justice (2004/5). She has authored many books and articles on all types of equality and social justice issues, especially in education, and more recently on the relationship between care and justice. Her most recent book, Care and Capitalism: Why Affective Equality Matters for Social Justice, was published by Polity Press, Cambridge in 2022. In this interview, she talks about the experiences and ideals that have shaped her work as an activist scholar: from her formative years in the West of Ireland to her collaboration opening spaces for resisting injustice, such as the Centre for Equality Studies and the School of Social Justice at University College Dublin. She also discusses some of the motivations behind her work on care and affective inequality, including her most recent book: Care and Capitalism. Visibilidades algorítmicas del feminismo en plataformas sociales

This article describes the development and the main findings of an research project that addresses the visibility of the digital public expression of feminism on four social platforms: Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Said visibility is regulated by the operation of the automated recommendation systems of the digital platforms, which decide what can be made visible and what is not based on automatized recommendations, or algorithms, functioning based on reaction metrics, such as "likes," comments, retweets and the views of a publication. To demonstrate it, three relevant hashtags, #abortolegal, #niunamenos and #justiciapara(name of the victim) were analyzed. Based on digital methods and data feminism initiatives, digital techniques for data collection, processing, and visualization were used. The learning phase of these methodologies in a data laboratory is also described. The findings show, on the one hand, three different logics that govern the visibility of digital expression on social platforms and, on the other, the power of algorithms is inherent in each situation and the elements that are part of it.Este artículo describe los principales hallazgos de un proyecto de investigación que aborda la visibilidad de la expresión pública digital del feminismo en cuatro plataformas sociales: Twitter, Instagram, TikTok y YouTube. Dicha visibilidad se encuentra regulada por el funcionamiento de los sistemas automatizados de recomendación de las plataformas, las que deciden cuáles son más vistas y cuáles no, en función de recomendaciones automatizadas o algoritmos, cuyos parámetros incluyen las métricas de reacciones, como los “me gusta”, comentarios, retuits y visualizaciones de una publicación. Para demostrarlo, se analizaron tres hashtags relevantes: #abortolegal, #niunamenos y #justiciapara(nombre de la víctima). Con base en las iniciativas de métodos digitales y del feminismo de datos, se emplearon técnicas digitales para la recolección y el procesamiento y la visualización de datos. Se describe además la fase de aprendizaje de estas metodologías en un laboratorio universitario. Los hallazgos muestran, por un lado, tres lógicas distintas que rigen la visibilidad de la expresión digital feminista en las plataformas sociales y por el otro, que el poder de los algoritmos es inherente a cada situación y los elementos que forman parte de ellas

La rebelión de la imagen revelada: mirando a través de “la cámara oscura”

Social identity is not necessarily determined by society, however, it is inevitably constructed by it and mediated by its discourse. Each society imposes a conception of the corporeal and the beautiful that, like the word, is subject to a social administration, where the private and the public are intertwined. Thus, the speech works as an instruction on acting, speaking and even thinking, allowing each member to assume the social role that others are able to recognize. These lines invite us to look through the protagonist of the film “The dark camera”, the feminine image that is defined by the establishment of a desired type of woman according to an ideal pattern socially constructed for acting, saying and being silent. However, she is encouraged to discover and explore the confines of the universe at the door of her house, by appropriating the word and re-creating an existence that saves her. Gertrudis moves away from the common place of victimization creating an approach that overcomes by reinforcing marginality with disobedience, imposing itself on invisibility and silence. She was able to question the mandates speaking from silence by expressing her rebellion against a culture of domination, installing the family photograph in the center of her home, in sight, symbolically in the public space.La identidad social no está necesariamente determinada por la sociedad, sin embargo, se encuentra inevitablemente construida por ella y mediada por su discurso. Cada sociedad impone una concepción sobre lo corporal y lo bello que, al igual que la palabra, se halla sometida a una administración social, donde lo privado y lo público se entrelazan. Así el discurso funciona como un instructivo sobre el actuar, el hablar y hasta el pensar permitiéndole a cada integrante asumir el rol social que los demás sean capaces de reconocerle. Estas líneas invitan a mirar a través de la protagonista del film “La cámara oscura”, la imagen femenina que se define mediante la instauración de un tipo deseado de mujer según un patrón ideal construido socialmente para el actuar, el decir y el callar. Sin embargo, ella, se anima a descubrir y explorar los confines del universo en la puerta de su casa, al apropiarse de la palabra y re-crear una existencia que la salve. Gertrudis, se aleja del lugar común de la victimización creando un planteo superador al reforzar la marginalidad con la desobediencia imponiéndose a la invisibilidad y el silencio. Ella fue capaz de cuestionar los mandatos hablando desde el silencio al expresar su rebeldía ante una cultura de dominación, instalando la fotografía familiar en el centro de su hogar, a la vista, simbólicamente en el espacio público
