Effect of the Consciousness Energy Healing Treatment on DMEM for the Proliferation and Differentiation of Human Bone Osteosarcoma Cells to Improve Bone Health
The bone health is an important part of healthy-life and longevity in current situation due to huge toxins and contaminants in the environment and food chain. Considering the importance of bone health in the modern era, the present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of the Consciousness Energy Healing (The Trivedi Effect®) Treatment on Dulbecco's Modified Eagle Medium (DMEM) in which the human bone osteosarcoma cells - MG-63 (ATCC® CRL-1427™) was grown for the assessment of bone cell proliferation and differentiation in vitro. The study parameters were assessed using cell viability by MTT assay, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and collagen synthesis on bone health using ELISA-based assay. The cell viability was significantly increased by 24% in the Biofield Energy Treated group supplemented with 10% charcoal-dextran with fetal bovine serum (CD-FBS) (G3) compared to the untreated cells group (G1). The level of ALP was significantly increased by 72% in the G3 group compared to the G1 group. Additionally, the level of collagen synthesis was significantly (p?0.001) increased by 19% in the G3 group compared to the G1 group. The overall results demonstrated that the Biofield Energy Treated DMEM has the potential for bone mineralization and bone cells growth as evident via increased levels of collagen and ALP. Therefore, the Biofield Energy Healing (The Trivedi Effect®) Treatment could be useful as a bone health promoter for various bone-related disorders like low bone density, osteogenesis imperfecta, and osteoporosis, etc
Effect of Gradually Decreasing Photoperiod on Immune Function in Siberian Hamsters
Animals usually use photoperiod as an important environmental cue to time the year. In terms of the winter immunocompetence enhancement hypothesis, animals in the non-tropical zone would actively enhance their immune function to decrease the negative influence of stressors such as low temperature and food shortage in winter. In the present study, we mimicked the transition from summer to winter by decreasing photoperiod gradually and examined the variations of immune repsonses in Siberian hamsters (Phodopus sungorus) to test this hypothesis. Twenty two female adult hamsters were randomly divided into the control (12h light: 12h dark, Control, n=11) and the gradually decreasing photoperiod group (Experiment, n=11). In the experiment group, day length was decreased from 12 h: 12 h light-dark cycle to 8 h: 16 h light-dark cycle at the pace of half an hour per week. We found that gradually decreasing photoperiod had no effect on body composition (wet carcass mass, subcutaneous, retroperitoneal, mesenteric and total body fat mass) and the masses of the organs detected such as brain, heart, liver and so on in hamsters. Similarly, immunological parameters including immune organs (thymus and spleen), white blood cells and serum bacteria killing capacity indicative of innate immunity were also not influenced by gradually decreasing photoperiod, which did not support the winter immunocompetence enhancement hypothesis. However, gradually decreasing photoperiod increased phytohaemagglutinin response post-24h of PHA challenge, which supported this hypothesis. There was no correlation between cellular, innate immunity and body fat mass, suggesting that body fat was not the reasons of the changes of cellular immunity. In summary, distinct components of immune system respond to gradually decreasing photoperiod differently in Siberian hamsters
Expression Profiles Analysis Identification and Interaction of Key Genes and Micrornas in Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Background. Hepatocellular carcinoma is one of the most common malignant tumors, with rapid development and high malignancy. MicroRNAs have been reported to play important roles in hepatocellular carcinoma progression.
Aim. To identify the key genes and miRNAs in HCC, and to explore their potential molecular mechanisms.
Methods. Gene expression profiles of GSE15471 (mRNA profile) and GSE57555 (miRNA profile) were downloaded from gene expression omnibus, which were analysed using R software and bioconductor packages. The gene ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichments of DEGs were performed using the DAVID database, and the protein–protein interaction networks of the DEGs were constructed from the STRING database. In addition, targets of differentially expressed miRNAs were predicted by the online resource miRDB.
Result. In total, 191 differentially expressed genes were identified, including 142 upregulated and 49 downregulated genes. Functional analysis revealed that these DEGs were associates with wound healing, endodermal cell-cell adhesion, activation of MAPK activity and negative regulation of cell proliferation. In addition, we identified five DEMs, which were upregulated and downregulated. hsa-miR-122-5p may target the PDK4, and hsa-miR-21-5p probably targets SPOCK1 and PAIP2B.
Conclusions. We applied integrated bioinformatics to identify key pathogenic genes involved in hepatocellular carcinoma and provide new clues for further studies of hepatocellular carcinoma
Effectiviness of Volar Static Hand-Wrist Orthesis in Stroke Patients: orthesis in stroke patients
Objective: To evaluate the volar static hand-wrist orthoses, upper extremity motor development, manual dexterity and independence in daily life activities in stroke patients. Methods: Forty patients were prospectively randomized to use a volar splint or no splint (control group). All patients were included in a 6-week rehabilitation programme. Fugl-Meyer Assessment was used for clinical motor assessment, the Modified Ashworth Scale was employed for spasticity, the Nine Hole Peg Test (NHPT) was used for evaluating fine motor dexterity, and the Barthel index was employed for functional evaluation Results: Only a significant difference was found in the Modified Ashworth finger flexor values in Group 1 patients between hospitalisation and week 3 and week 6 but other scales were not significantly different among the groups. Conclusions: Volar static hand-wrist orthoses were shown to be particularly effective on finger flexors with exercise therapy in reducing muscle tone, and also beneficial exercise programmes in post-stroke rehabilitation.
 
Lifestyle Management Still Relevant, Despite Genetics Advancement, in Non-Communicable Diseases Risks: A Perspective
Genotype and lifestyle factors have been implicated as the causes of non-communicable diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and chronic respiratory disease. Lifestyle factors constitute physical activity, smoking, alcohol intake and dietary habits. These factors alongside genetic factors have been studied over the past years on their relationships with non-communicable diseases. This review examined and compared the strengths of the two factors, lifestyle and genotype, in causing non-communicable diseases. A search was done online, predominantly with PubMed, to identify articles that contained the keywords, lifestyle, diet, exercise, genotype, gene, non-communicable diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, diabetes. For diabetes, the results of this review showed that management of lifestyle factors can be used to prevent type 2 diabetes among genetically predisposed persons. Cancers studies have suggested that a Mediterranean diet is associated with lower cancer risk for both genetically susceptible people and non-susceptible individuals. Similar findings were gotten for cardiovascular diseases and chronic respiratory diseases. The results suggest a strong impact of lifestyle-related factors as a cause of non-communicable diseases though genetic factors cannot be underestimated. With good management of lifestyle factors, non-communicable diseases can be prevented and the risks reduced even among genetically high-risk individuals.

Red Cell Distribution Width and Neutrophil/lymphocyte Ratio in Coronary Bare Metal Stent Restenosis: Red Cell Distribution Width and Neutrophil/lymphocyte Ratio in Stent Restenosis
Background
Coronary stents are commonly used to treat obstructive coronary artery disease. It is currently difficult to reliably predict in-stent restenosis. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between bare metal stent restenosis and red cell distribution width (RDW), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (N/L ratio). It was the first study that used a control group with a normal coronary angiogram.
Methods
We enrolled patients who underwent coronary angiography between June 2012 and September 2013 in our center. We enrolled a cohort of 210 consecutive patients, of which 130 had a coronary artery stent and 80 had a normal coronary angiogram.
Results
The mean age of the study group was 62 (38-86) years. The mean RDW levels of patient group with no-restenosis were significantly higher than the control group but there was no significant difference between the mean RDW levels of the restenosis group and the other subgroups (14.9 (11.7-17.6), 15.5 (10.9-20.4), 15.4 (11.7-20.1), respectively). N/L ratio was significantly higher in patients with stent restenosis 2.32(1.49-5.35) compared to the other two groups whereas there was no significant difference between the control group and non-restenosis group with respect to N/L ratio. (1.71(0.84-7.89), and 2.09(0.89-9.15), respectively).
Conclusions
According to our findings, RDW was not a predictor of stent restenosis or coronary artery disease. On the other hand, our findings support the hypothesis that N/L ratio is an indicator of inflammation that plays a role in-stent restenosi
Proline Formation (produce) in the Bacteria: under KCl stress
Salinity is one of the important abiotic stress affecting microorganism growth and productivity. To survive these stresses most organisms have to stress-adaptation mechanisms. It's one of these things proline. We did not find any similar studies with P. aeruginosa and E. faecalis in our studies. The highest value for proline production at 30 °C 100 rpm was in E. faecalis 11,074 U/ml and in E. coli 6,833 U/ml. The highest proline production in LB medium containing 37 °C 100 rpm KCl was found to be in E. faecalis 14,604 U/ml and in E. coli 6,557 U/ml. However, there are studies with E. coli. This experiment revealed that the extracellular proline concentration is proportionally linked to the KCl stress. We should first mention that studies similar to those we were less common in the literature. We did not find any similar studies with P. aeruginosa and E. faecalis in our studies
A Retrospective Paired Study: Efficacy and Safety of Nimotuzumab Combined with Radiochemotherapy in Locoregionally Advanced Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of nimotuzumab in combination with radiochemotherapy as the primary treatment in patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma from September 2012 to December 2016. 188 newly diagnosed patients with stage III–IVB nasopharyngeal carcinoma were treated with at least 1-2 cycles of chemotherapy concurrently with planned IMRT. 88 patients received nimotuzumab 200 mg/week. Acute and late radiation-related toxicities were graded according to the Acute and Late Radiation Morbidity Scoring Criteria of Radiation Therapy Oncology Group. Results: After 3 months of treatment, the complete response rates of nasopharyngeal tumors in the study group and the control group were 78.4% and 65.5%, respectively (?2=4.070, P=0.044). The total complete response rates of cervical lymph nodes in the study group and the control group were 80.7% and 67.6% respectively (?2=4.022, P=0.045).The median cycle for nimotuzumab addition was 6.3 weeks. With a median follow-up of 36.3 months (range, 12–72 months), the estimated 3-year progression failure-free survival and overall survival rates for the study group and the control group were 85.24% vs 81.97% and 96.67% vs 90.0%, respectively. The 3-year local recurrence-free survival rates for the study group and the control group were 96.67% vs 83.60%, respectively (P=0.047). Grade 3 radiation-induced mucositis accounted for 36.4% of treated patients. No skin rash and infusion reaction were observed, distinctly from what is reported in control patients. Conclusion: Nimotuzumab plus chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma showed promising outcomes in terms of locoregional control, without increasing the incidence of radiation-related toxicities for patients
Nano Graphene Oxide as Solid Phase Extraction Adsorbent Coupled with Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction to Determine Ultra-Trace Quantities of Propranolol from Urine Samples
In this research, a new nano graphene oxide based solid phase extraction followed by Dispersive Liquid-Liquid Microextraction was applied as simple, rapid and sensitive determination of trace amounts of Propranolol(PRO) in urine samples with HPLC-UVD. Several factors influencing the extraction of PRO, such as pH, adsorbent amounts, extraction time, organic solvent type and the composition of solvent and desorption conditions were studied and optimized. Under optimum condition, the limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) of the proposed method were 2ng/mL?1 and 6.6ng/mL, respectively. Good linear behaviour over the investigated concentration ranges (2-2000ng/mL-1) and good correlation coefficient of 0.9901(r2) were obtained. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) based on three determinations at 2, 20, 200ng/mL-1 levels of PRO was less than 9.7%. The findings of the present study may provide clinical and diagnostic laboratories.
