　綜合郷土研究所では、2023年度より３年間の予定で、「考古遺物（鉄製品）の保存処理・公開」事業を展開している。この事業は、綜合郷土研究所が所蔵する出土鉄製品のうち、学術的に重要なものを中心に保存処理を実施し、終了後は所内での保管体制を整えるとともに、広く一般に公開することを目的としている。対象とするのは、寺西一号墳出土大刀10本のうち、大刀４・５・８・10の４本と、矛３本のうち矛２の１本である。　今年度（２年目）は、処理工程の後半にあたる、第２次クリーニング、樹脂含浸・塗布、復元・整形、処理後調査の工程を進める。前年同様、事業責任者である廣瀬が処理を委託している元興寺文化財研究所に赴き、作業担当者と調整を行った。復元はおおむね完成しているが、一部に接合関係が不明な破片が残っている。また、錆で膨れ上がっているため、正位置に戻すと不格好となる部分があるが、正確さを期すために可能な限り正位置で復元する方向で進めることとした。　本事業は、朝日新聞文化財団の文化財保護助成に採択されているので、対象となる大刀・矛は、保存処理終了後の公開が義務づけられている。最終年度となる2025年度に成果報告の場としてシンポジウムを予定しているので、その場で公開ができるよう、現在準備を進めているところである。復元作業中の大刀４（上）と大刀５（下）「考古遺物（鉄製品）の保存処理・公開」事業の進捗状況について廣瀬憲雄（事業責任者）− 173 −（1）
