Debate began to flourish in its second year at BjC, in-creasing
in enthusiastic membership and activity. The
Debate team is the North Dakota Alpha chapter of PHI
RHO PI, the National Forensics organization.
Working to overcome the obstacles of a low budget
and the death of President Richard Haugen's car, the
team's fearless leader Mr. Burkett led them to tourna-ments
at Eastern and Rocky Mountain colleges in Bill-ings,
Montana, Dickinson, Black Hills State, and almost
U.N.D.
The Debators also hosted two tourneys at BJC.The first,
a college invitational, found BJC debators finalists in
every event, an all time high for the team. The second,
a high school meet, gave the team new and exciting
experiences in organizing and judging debate events.

Selling beanies to
student senate directs
college activities
In addition to its usual functions of recommending policies and
procedures for B]C, the Student Senate sponsors dances,
awards scholarships, and arranges various activities for the
school. Freshman initiation, the Christmas program, and the
movies "Chamber of Horrors" and "Texas Across the River"
are a few of the events brought about through the efforts of
Student Senate.
