SUBALTERNITAS PEREMPUAN TIONGHOA DALAM NOVEL MEI MERAH 1998: KALA ARWAH BERKISAH
This study aims to examine the subject of women in colonial discourse by natives through the novel Mei Merah 1998: Kala Arwah Berkisah. To achieve this goal, descriptive qualitative is used as a research method. The data source is the novel Mei Merah 1998: Kala Arwah Berkisah (2018) by Naning Pranoto and all information related to the research topic. The research data ranges from language and sentences to thoughts in the text of the novel which contains narratives of female subjects who experience oppression and other related data. Data collection techniques are done by reading and taking notes. This research shows that Chinese women in Indonesia are in a subaltern position in the societal hierarchy. These women experienced double oppression, from their identity as Chinese under native domination and from their position as women under male domination. The events of May 1998 were proof of colonialism against ethnic Chinese women. The voice of the silenced minority group is attempted by the author to construct through the narration of the female subject in the novel. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam mengkaji topik tersebut adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian adalah novel Mei Merah 1998: Kala Arwah Berkisah (2018) karya Naning Pranoto dan segala informasi yang terkait dengan topik penelitian. Data penelitian berupa bahasa dan kalimat hingga pemikiran dalam teks novel yang memuat narasi subjek perempuan yang mengalami penindasan dan data terkait lainnya. Sementara itu, teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan membaca dan mencatat. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perempuan Tionghoa di Indonesia berada pada posisi subaltern dalam hirarki masyarakat. Para perempuan ini mengalami penindasan ganda, dari identitasnya sebagai Tionghoa di bawah dominasi pribumi dan dari posisinya sebagai perempuan di bawah dominasi laki-laki. Peristiwa Mei 1998 menjadi bukti atas terjadinya penjajahan terhadap perempuan Tionghoa. Suara kelompok minoritas yang terbungkam ini berusaha dikontruksi oleh pengarang melalui narasi subjek perempuan dalam novel. Perempuan Tionghoa dalam narasi ini mengalami ambivalensi dan mimikri sebagai salah satu cara dalam melakukan resistensi terhadap wacana kolonial dari pribumi yang dominan
Humour as a Reflection of Linguistic Intelligence in the Indonesian Language within the Islamic Cultural Context
This study delves into the intricate interplay of humour, psycholinguistics, morphology, themes, rema, and language intelligence in the Indonesian language context. Employing a detailed analysis of seven humorous texts, the research dissects linguistic constructs that emphasize abrupt contextual shifts and cognitive disruptions as the core of Indonesian humour. By investigating the strategic use of themes and rhema, this study reveals how humour often arises from semantic illusions, morphological play, and phonological ambiguity that challenge the reader’s expectations. Through a psycholinguistic lens, it highlights the cognitive processes involved in humour comprehension, demonstrating the pivotal role of language intelligence in detecting and appreciating linguistic incongruities. Additionally, the study connects these humorous strategies to broader Islamic cultural values, such as adab (etiquette), ikhlas (sincerity), hikmah (wisdom), and amanah (moral responsibility), showing how humour reflects ethical communication embedded within Islamic civilisation. The research concludes that humour in Indonesian is a linguistic phenomenon and a reflection of cultural and spiritual intelligence, emphasising how language structure and religious values converge in crafting and appreciating comedic expressio
KEBIJAKAN PENGEMBANGAN KOLEKSI DI PERPUSTAKAAN AKADEMIK NEGARA BAGIAN IMO NIGERIA DAN TANZANIA
Libraries play a strategic role in improving the quality of education by providing informative and relevant collections. Collection development policies are essential, particularly for academic libraries that support theses and research conducted by the academic community. This study employs a literature review method, referencing various sources such as scientific books, journal articles, research reports, and regulations in both printed and electronic formats. Additionally, the study compares two journal articles discussing collection development policies in academic libraries in Africa, namely the Imo State Academic Library and the Tanzanian Academic Library. The findings indicate that both libraries have implemented collection development policies, including selection, acquisition, user studies, preservation, weeding, evaluation, and collaboration. However, the involvement of users in the selection process of library materials remains limited. Therefore, this study recommends increased user involvement in the selection process, the establishment of a Collection Development Department, periodic weeding, and enhanced collaboration among libraries
Islamic Legal Review of the Tradition of Laylat al-Henna in Wedding Ceremonies in Arab-Indonesia Descendant Families in Palu City
Abstract: One tradition that is currently still in effect and practiced by the community is the tradition of using henna in wedding ceremonies. The issue that arises in this henna usage tradition is that, with the advancement of technology, various types of henna have proliferated in the market, some of which are mixed with chemicals that can form a waterproof layer, thus making the color of the henna more intense and accelerating absorption. The diversity of henna types has led many people to doubt the naturalness of the ingredients contained in henna paste and may impede purity in worship. The purpose of this research is to analyze the issues related to the use of henna in the context of Islamic law, using empirical legal research methods and a sociology of Islamic law approach. This research then produces several conclusions: first, there are two types in the categorization of henna paste, namely natural henna with a reddish-brown color and black henna, which is the result of mixing natural henna with chemical substances. In the community's view, black henna should not be used. Second, the tradition of using henna in the Arab-Indonesian community in Palu is referred to as Laylat al-Henna, which has symbolic meaning, such as the hope that the prospective bride will soon have offspring, bringing happiness to the family that will be established. The Laylat al-Henna tradition falls into the category of 'urf shahih because it does not contradict Sharia, both in the text and other legal sources.Abstrak: Penggunaan henna dalam upacara pernikahan masih menjadi tradisi yang umum di masyarakat. Masalah yang muncul dalam tradisi penggunaan henna ini adalah, dengan kemajuan teknologi, berbagai jenis henna telah banyak beredar di pasaran, beberapa di antaranya dicampur dengan bahan kimia yang dapat membentuk lapisan tahan air sehingga membuat warna henna lebih pekat dan mempercepat penyerapan. Keberagaman jenis henna ini membuat banyak orang meragukan kealamian bahan yang terkandung dalam pasta henna dan dapat menghambat kesucian dalam beribadah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis permasalahan terkait penggunaan henna dalam konteks hukum Islam, dengan menggunakan metode penelitian hukum empiris dan pendekatan sosiologi hukum Islam. Penelitian ini menghasilkan beberapa kesimpulan: pertama, terdapat dua jenis dalam klasifikasi pasta henna, yaitu henna alami dengan warna merah kecoklatan dan henna hitam yang merupakan hasil campuran henna alami dengan bahan kimia. Dalam pandangan masyarakat, henna hitam sebaiknya tidak digunakan. Kedua, tradisi penggunaan henna di kalangan masyarakat Arab-Indonesia di Palu disebut dengan Laylat al-Henna, yang memiliki makna simbolis, seperti harapan agar calon pengantin segera mendapatkan keturunan, membawa kebahagiaan bagi keluarga yang akan dibentuk. Tradisi Laylat al-Henna termasuk dalam kategori 'urf shahih karena tidak bertentangan dengan syariat, baik dalam teks maupun sumber hukum lainnya
The Impact of Multiculturalism on Trade in Medieval Islam: The Azerbaijani Case
Islamic civilization in the Middle Ages, the period of cultural, economic, and scientific development called the "Golden Age of Islam", has been a real source of pride for the Muslim world. As a high and dominant civil society, medieval Islamic civilization has now gone through the process of integration, where different cultures and minorities have merged into a single society with the condition that each of them preserves their own roots and creates a unique environment of coexistence. Several factors shaped coexistence in Islamic civilization. The first factor is the emergence of the Islamic religion in the 7th century. The second factor is the multitude of economic ties between the countries included in the Islamic world. Muslims understood that the basis of the economy was trade. The spread of Islam from the Middle East to China, from North Africa to the centres of Europe, developed trade. In the Middle Ages, Azerbaijan became one of the leading countries where trade developed due to its location at the crossroads of trade routes from East to West, which became important for the Caliphate. Thus, the multicultural environment created by the Arab Caliphate created a foundation for the development of trade in Azerbaijan, making this country an important point for the coexistence and welfare of peoples. The article studies the trade relations of Azerbaijan during the Middle Ages, the impact of the multicultural environment on trade, and the development of trade within the framework of the economic relations established with other countries. Nyatnyono Village: A Nexus of Tarekat, Religious Culture and Tourism
This study explores the impact of tarekat (Sufi orders) on the religious culture of Nyatnyono Village, a rural community in Semarang Regency known for its rich Islamic traditions and emerging religious tourism. The village is home to several tarekat, including Qadiriyah wa Naqsyabandiyah (TQN), Naqsyabandiyah, Syattariyah, and Syadziliyah, all of which are intricately woven into the community's social and spiritual fabric. Insights gathered from interviews with local followers reveal that tarekat practices cultivate personal piety through spiritual guidance while fostering social solidarity and ethical behaviour. Under the mentorship of murshids (spiritual leaders), followers participate in dhikr, wirid, fasting, and communal gatherings, activities that facilitate spiritual development and strengthen communal relations. The findings indicate that tarekat practices play a vital role in shaping the cohesive religious culture of Nyatnyono Village, enhancing its resilience in times of crisis, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research underscores the enduring significance of Sufism in Indonesia’s rural Muslim communities, particularly in its capacity to integrate religious tourism with spiritual and social unity
Measuring the Influence of Philosophy on Arab Balaghah: A Critical Study of Amin al-Khuli's Thought
Abstract: This article aims to explore the relationship between philosophy and balaghah, as well as the mutual influence between the two, focusing on Amin al-Khuli's “Manahij Tajdid Fi al-Nahw Wa al-Balaghah Wa al-Tafsir Wa al-Adab.” The relationship between philosophy and balaghah is a rarely discussed topic, so this article offers a new perspective on the study of Arabic literature and philosophical thought. In this study, the main sources analyzed are al-Khuli's works as well as several relevant articles and books, both those that discuss al-Khuli's thoughts directly and those that highlight the historical development of philosophy and balaghah. The method used is descriptive-analytical, in which the research deeply examines primary and secondary literature related to the topic. The author attempts to identify the elements of philosophy in classical balaghah works, as well as to trace the traces of philosophical thought in the balaghah tradition. The research also examines the important role of the translation of Aristotle's works into Arabic, which enriched the development of both disciplines. The results show that philosophical thought has long been present in the works of balaghah figures. This influence can be seen in written works that combine elements of philosophy and balaghah. Furthermore, the translation of classical Greek philosophical texts by Arab scholars further reinforced the importance of understanding philosophy for balaghah scholars. In conclusion, the relationship between philosophy and balaghah is mutually influential. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi hubungan antara filsafat dan balaghah, serta pengaruh timbal balik antara keduanya, dengan fokus pada karya Amin al-Khuli yang berjudul Manahij Tajdid Fi al-Nahw Wa al-Balaghah Wa al-Tafsir Wa al-Adab. Hubungan antara filsafat dan balaghah merupakan topik yang jarang dibahas, sehingga artikel ini menawarkan perspektif baru dalam kajian sastra Arab dan pemikiran filosofis. Sumber utama yang dianalisis adalah karya-karya al-Khuli serta beberapa artikel dan buku relevan lainnya, baik yang membahas pemikiran al-Khuli secara langsung maupun yang menyoroti perkembangan historis filsafat dan balaghah. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif-analitis dengan menelaah secara mendalam literatur primer dan sekunder yang berkaitan dengan topik. Penulis berupaya mengidentifikasi elemen-elemen filsafat dalam karya-karya balaghah klasik, serta menelusuri jejak pemikiran filosofis dalam tradisi balaghah. Penelitian ini juga mengkaji peran penting penerjemahan karya-karya Aristoteles ke dalam bahasa Arab, yang memperkaya perkembangan kedua disiplin ilmu tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemikiran filosofis telah lama hadir dalam karya-karya tokoh balaghah. Pengaruh ini dapat dilihat dalam karya-karya tertulis yang menggabungkan elemen-elemen filsafat dan balaghah. Lebih lanjut, penerjemahan teks-teks filosofis Yunani klasik oleh para sarjana Arab semakin memperkuat pentingnya pemahaman filsafat bagi para ahli balaghah. Gen Z's Perspective on Balaclava Hijab Trend
Abstract: This study aims to understand and explore the controversial issue of wearing balaclava as a jilbab among Generation Z. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive research approach, with data collection techniques of observation, interviews, and documentation, and the technique of determining research informants using accidental sampling. The result of this research is that balaclava is a head covering worn by British soldiers when on duty in winter. Over time, balaclava has become very popular among motorcycle lovers. balaclava is used as a self-protection tool by motorcyclists to protect themselves from the wind and dust that blow strongly while driving. Nowadays, balaclava is becoming a trend among Indonesian hijabers, because of its unique and practical model. Muslim women use balaclava as a hijab style to look fashionable. However, the use of this jilbab has caused various controversies among Gen Z. There are some who agree with the use of the jilbab. There are some who agree with the use of this jilbab because it is simple and fashionable, but other opinions say that balaclava is considered not following Islamic law because it does not cover the aurat perfectly.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami dan mengeksplorasi isu kontroversial penggunaan balaclava sebagai jilbab di kalangan Generasi Z. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif, dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi, serta teknik penentuan informan penelitian menggunakan accidental sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa balaclava awalnya merupakan penutup kepala yang dikenakan oleh tentara Inggris saat bertugas di musim dingin. Seiring waktu, balaclava menjadi sangat populer di kalangan pecinta sepeda motor. Balaclava digunakan sebagai alat pelindung diri oleh pengendara motor untuk melindungi diri dari angin dan debu yang berhembus kencang saat berkendara. Saat ini, balaclava menjadi tren di kalangan hijabers Indonesia karena modelnya yang unik dan praktis. Perempuan Muslim menggunakan balaclava sebagai gaya hijab untuk tampil modis. Namun, penggunaan jilbab ini menimbulkan berbagai kontroversi di kalangan Generasi Z. Ada yang setuju dengan penggunaan jilbab ini karena dianggap simpel dan modis, tetapi ada juga yang berpendapat bahwa balaclava dianggap tidak sesuai dengan hukum Islam karena tidak menutup aurat dengan sempurna
Respons Sultan-Sultan Banten Terhadap Intervensi Belanda Tahun 1684-1811
penelitian ini mengkaji tentang respons sultan-sultan Banten dalam menghadapi intervensi Belanda dalam pemerintahannya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan intervensi yang dilakukan Belanda terhadap Banten sejak Sultan Haji berkuasa hingga ditaklukkan Inggris, menguraikan para sultan Banten yang mendapat intervensi Belanda, dan reaksi para sultan terhadap intervensi yang dirasakannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan politik untuk memahami respons para sultan Banten. Metode yang dipakai adalah metode penelitian sejarah yang mencakup empat tahap, yaitu heuristik, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Hasil penelitian ini ialah perjanjian Sultan Haji dengan Belanda yang disepakati tanggal 17 April 1684, menjadi langkah awal Belanda untuk mengintervensi Banten. Sejak era Sultan Haji, Kesultanan Banten telah berada dalam pengaruh Belanda. Sebagian keputusan sultan juga harus mendapat izin Belanda terlebih dahulu. Belanda juga memonopoli perdagangan di Banten, bahkan mendirikan benteng pertahanan untuk memperkuat posisinya. Intervensi yang dilakukan Belanda membawa dampak buruk bagi Banten. Kondisi Banten kala itu sudah seperti daerah bagian Belanda yang harus mengikuti kemauannya. Menghadapi situasi ini, para sultan Banten memberikan reaksi atas campur tangan Belanda terhadap pemerintahannya. Sebagian sultan memilih untuk bersahabat dengan Belanda dan sisanya melakukan perlawanan. Meskipun berbeda dalam menghadapi intervensi Belanda, para sultan Banten ternyata memiliki tujuan yang sama yaitu mempertahankan Kesultanan Banten
PERAN ARSIPARIS SEBAGAI AGEN DALAM UPAYA MENEGAKKAN GERAKAN NASIONAL SADAR TERTIB ARSIP DI LEMBAGA PERLINDUNGAN SAKSI DAN KORBAN
Archivists can play a role in realizing the National Movement for Aware and Orderly Archives initiated by ANRI. This study aims to understand the role of archivists in record management as an effort to enforce the National Movement of Awareness and Orderly Archive in The Institute of Witness and Victim Protection. The type of research used is a case study with a qualitative approach. Techniques in data collection include observation, interviews, literature studies, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are data reduction, data presentation, triangulation, and conclusions. The results of this study revealed that archivists play a role in all stages of record management, creation, usage, storage, and disposition, as well as acting as a trigger in initiating the declaration of the National Movement of Awareness and Orderly Archive. Efforts made by archivists in dealing with the problem of archivists are accommodating internship activities to assist the work in managing archives, improving the quality of self by following the archiving training, discussing with leaders related to the implementation of archiving policies, and creative thinking while continuing to carry out their work despite obstacles
