La Sicilia e la religiosità siciliana costituiscono lo sfondo implicito delle suddette tematicheThe issues of religiosity in post-modern society by referring to the problematic nodes on which the debate of sociologists of religion focuses today. Through theoretical and empirical reflections, many scholars, especially religious exponents of Christianism and Catholicism, try to give answers to some questions. Have secularisation and modernisation produced the crisis or disappearance of religion in the world? How are religions reacting to social change? How is the religious geography changing in the different continents? What forms of religiosity are widespread in Europe and the world?
In particular, we reflect on the 'resilience' of religion today and the forms of the religious phenomenon today and the scenarios, some more consolidated and others still in the making in the future. Sicily and Sicilian religiosity constitute the implicit background
(Inter)subjectivity and information structure: The pragmatics of left and right peripheries in spoken Mandarin
This study provides a novel data-driven analytic model for the study of the utterance peripheries. The model operationalises the relationship between information structure and (inter)subjectivity, uncovering how speakers simultaneously manage cognitive and social aspects of communication. Using a sample of 21 spontaneous telephone conversations between Mandarin native speakers (CallFriend Mandarin Corpus), all aboutness and framing topics (Lambrecht, 1994; Frascarelli, 2017) occurring at the utterance right periphery were identified and compared with an equivalent number of topics produced at the left periphery. The study provides a multifactorial analysis including referent activation (Chafe, 1987), subjectivity (Du Bois, 2007) and intersubjectivity (Tantucci and Wang, 2018), demonstrating that multiple dimensions must be taken into account to grasp the differences between the two peripheries of the utterance. In fact, rather than differing in activation profiles or presence of (inter)subjectivity, they are characterized by distinct combinations of these dimensions. Specifically, right-peripheral topics frequently display the simultaneous presence of active referents, a subjective stance conveyed by the speaker – most frequently negative – and a peripheral marker of intersubjectivity. The complex interaction between these dimensions suggests that right peripheries serve as a key site for negotiating social relationships, aligning perspectives, and managing politeness
Functional association measures among air quality index components
A widely used method for evaluating air quality is to represent the levels of pollutants using a singular metric defined as air quality index. Although widely used in the literature, a common criticism to air quality indexes is that they lack to account for variability among their components. This paper focuses on this aspect and emphasizes the importance of analyzing the association among pollutants by considering their variability over time. To this end, two original measures of association among pollutants are proposed using the functional data analysis approach. The suggested measures refer to two different aspects of association: the first refers to dispersion among pollutants and the second indicates closeness of pollutants to an alert threshold. The proposed association measures are evaluated through a simulation study and are applied to a real dataset of pollutant concentrations in the Tuscany region, in Central Italy
Il mondo in un armadio.
In recent years, historical school geographic heritage has been the object of attention, aimed at its valorisation, also through forms of musealisation. In this process, interest in historical school wall cartography seems to be less than it deserves. The essay aims to propose a theoretical-methodological reflection and an analysis of the wall cartography collection of the “Giuseppe Caraci” Geocartographic Laboratory of the University of Roma Tre
Evaluation of Technical Aspects of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Installations on Farmland
This research evaluates the technical and economic aspects of solar photovoltaic (PV) power installations on farmland, utilizing a simulation model in MATLAB to forecast annual system output based on nominal power and meteorological data. This study compares various configurations, including single-sided versus double-sided modules and fixed versus tracker structures, to determine their efficiency, losses, and economic viability. The findings indicate that, while theoretically superior technologies may offer better production rates, their economic feasibility varies significantly depending on specific project conditions. The main conclusions drawn from this research emphasize that land-based PV systems present a promising solution for sustainable energy generation. By addressing challenges such as solar energy intermittency and the need for supportive infrastructure, this study highlights the potential for these systems to significantly contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing energy resilience. This analysis underscores the importance of optimizing configurations to maximize both technical performance and economic returns, ultimately supporting a transition towards a more sustainable energy future
