UDL as a theoretical approach to deconstructing bias and stereotypes in teacher education: experiences of using comics in universities
Stereotypes and biases, the result of socialization processes and cultural structures to which humans are exposed from birth, influence educational practice in an pervasive, though often unconscious, manner (Amodio, 2014). It is therefore imperative to cultivate a critical awareness of these processes to facilitate the creation of more equitable learning environments and inclusive educational relationships. The following paper, which is part of a broader research
project, examines the impact of combining visual storytelling and critical reflection on teachers in training during some workshops of the course "Inclusive Pedagogy and Disability Studies" (RomaTre University), which aims to provide knowledge and tools for intersectional analysis of social hierarchies. The analysis employs a combination of visual storytelling techniques and critical reflection, a methodology that has been found to be effective in previous studies (Moretti & Scavarda, 2021). The incorporation of comics, which adhere to the principles of Universal Design for Learning (CAST, 2024; Guerini et al., 2025; Centrone et al., 2025), has been demonstrated to be a highly effective medium for acquiring critical analysis skills and fostering intersectional deconstruction of prejudices that underpin forms of discrimination within educational settings
La funzione ecologica della proprietà boschiva in Italia e “Il segreto del Bosco Vecchio” di Dino Buzzati: una prospettiva letteraria.
Human activities, mainly focused on the use of fossil fuels and deforestation, are at the origin of the ongoing climate change. The latter generates a significant increase in average temperatures worldwide with critical repercussions on the whole of humanity. Among the various solutions to global warming, given the ability to effectively absorb greenhouse gases, there is great attention from the law to plant ecosystems, which is expressed especially through legislation aimed at ensuring their prudent management.
This paper intends firstly to reconstruct the normative passages that have led part of the legal literature to elaborate a specific declination of the social function recognized by the Italian Constitution to private property, specifically, the ecological function. Secondly, since this formulation is the expression of a legal sensitivity still in the process of being affirmed, the article makes use of the expressive potential of the book by Dino Buzzati, “Il Segreto del Bosco Vecchio”, since it reveals an implicit criticism of property in the traditional sense and offers an emblematic reinterpretation in an ecological key

An efficient numerical tool for 1-dof nonlinear systems towards large-scale seismic structural health monitoring of masonry buildings
A nonlinear constitutive model, combined with an ad-hoc developed numerical strategy, is proposed to study the nonlinear dynamics of masonry buildings approached through single degree-of-freedom systems (1-dof). This proposal is explicitly aimed at providing enhancements in designing tools for seismic structural health monitoring in large-scale urban contexts. The model incorporates plasticity and damage induced by friction and wear, and it is capable of capturing the nonlinear response of structures subject to general external time-dependent loads. A numerical algorithm to solve the ensuing piecewise nonlinear equations is devised and explicitly implemented in a low-level language, thus being optimized for specific hardware systems for structural health monitoring. The proposed formulation is initially tested to validate the model’s constitutive parameters by identifying them in pseudo-static regimes, according to the experimental behavior of a real-scale single-storey masonry building. Then, the numerical stability of the proposed code is examined in comparison with traditional numerical solvers. Finally, the effects of real seismic actions are investigated, with particular emphasis on the accumulated damage when subsequent quakes are considered
