Flaherty Hillary "Picks" Schroder, who was the founder and first president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida, Inc., passed away yesterday in Dunedin, Florida. He is the father of Don Schroder, Administrator of Mease Hospital and Clinics in Dunedin, and a past board member. In talking with Don this afternoon, he indicated that since his father had been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for quite some time, his passing was a blessing. There will be a private family service in Dunedin this afternoon, with the burial in Jacksonville (no service). It is the family's request that in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to make a contribution in his father's name, should select a favorite charity, any organization sponsoring the treatment or research of Alzheimer's disease, or the Mease Hospital Foundation. Picks Schroder was one of the innovators of our industry and all of us have benefited from his contributions.
