Baker Award Junior Achievement of North Florida marks its 15th year of presenting the Thompson S. Baker "Solid As A Rock" Award recognizing individuals in our community who have dedicated themselves to bettering our community through leadership, hands-on involvement and philanthropic deeds. The annual award celebrates our local heroes who have positively inBuenced business and education for Jacksonville. Since 1999, this prestigious annual award has been named for Thompson S. Baker, the founder of Florida Rock Industries who unselfishly contributed to the betterment of our community. Member FDIC. 121840 06/13 Together we'll go far About JA Junior Achievement is celebrating its 50th year of bringing financial literacy, workforce preparation and entrepreneurship programs to young people in North Florida. Since 1963, 24,000 volunteers have taught Junior Achievement programs to 480,189 young people. This year, we are poised to reach over 35,000 students in grades K- 12. Formal operations in Leon and Clay Counties will further increase our reach and impact. Junior Achievement is also an integral partner in the education of young people in our community. This year, Superintendent Vitti, 230 District Administrators and four Duval County School Board members taught Junior Achievement classes to over 5,000 students. In the 2013- 14 school year, Junior Achievement's Finance Park Virtual program will be embedded in high school economics classes thanks to Fidelity Investment's Title Sponsorship, Superintendent Vitti and the Duval County School Board. Even more integration of Junior Achievement's programs into classroom curriculum is being planned for the 2014- 15 school year. Junior Achievement is truly Education That Works! £. Junior IA. BAKER "SOLID AS A ROCK" AWARD Shahid Khan - Owner Shahid Khan, the embodiment of the American Dream, will soon begin his second season as owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Shad was approved as owner of the Jaguars in December 2011, and since then has been a source of energy and pride for the entire Jacksonville community as he oversees a total rebirth of the franchise, from the product on the field to the game experience for fans and much more. Shad's inspirational story as a 16-year-old immigrant college student to the U.S. from Pakistan to becoming a worldwide leader in the automotive supplier industry captured the nation's attention last year, and 2013 promises more of the same as his vision to extend Jacksonville's brand internationally comes to life in October when the Jaguars play the first of four "home" games in London. Shad is the president and owner of Flex-N-Gate Corporation, the 14th largest North American automotive supplier which employs more than 17,000 people at 52 manufacturing and nine product development and engineering facilities throughout the world.
