Background: New technologies open a wide field of alternatives to improve the reproductive efficiency of cattle systems in artificial insemination, but they will only be successful to the extent that a precise organization and evaluation of the entire process is achieved.Objective: To make a summary of the main concepts, trends and perspectives, in relation to the reproductive efficiency of cattle systems in artificial insemination.Development: There are different criteria to define reproductive efficiency, an analysis of this aspect and the complexity of its evaluation in practice is carried out due to the differences between production systems and their established goals, which are more evident between production systems. annual and seasonal calving. A new concept of reproductive efficiency is defined applicable to any system.Conclusions: A definition of reproductive efficiency is provided based on the fertility of the parents, profitability, the intervention of man and the action of the environment. Antecedentes: Las nuevas tecnologías abren un amplio campo de alternativas para mejorar la eficiencia reproductiva de los sistemas vacunos en inseminación artificial, pero solo serán exitosas en la medida en que se logre una organización y evaluación precisas de todo el proceso.
Objetivo. Realizar un resumen de los principales conceptos, tendencias y perspectivas, en relación con la eficiencia reproductiva de los sistemas vacunos en inseminación artificial.
Desarrollo: Existen diferentes criterios para definir a la eficiencia reproductiva, se realiza un análisis de este aspecto y lo complejo de su evaluación en la práctica por las diferencias existentes entre los sistemas de producción y sus metas establecidas, que son más evidentes entre los sistemas de pariciones anuales y los estacionales. Se define un nuevo concepto de eficiencia reproductiva aplicable a cualquier sistema.
Conclusiones: Se brinda una definición de la eficiencia reproductiva basada en en la fertilidad de los progenitores, la rentabilidad, la intervención del hombre y la acción del ambiente. Se valoran como alternativas zootécnicas la estacionalidad asociada a la inseminación artificial a tiempo fijo (IATF) y el control de la reproducción a través de la metodología del índice global de eficiencia biorreproductiva (IgEBR).
