CP asymmetry in Bβˆ’β†’Ο€+Ο€βˆ’Kβˆ’B^- \to \pi^+ \pi^- K^- and Bβˆ’β†’K+Kβˆ’Kβˆ’B^- \to K^+ K^- K^- decays

Abstract

The near equality between the measured value for ∣Vub∣/∣Vcb∣|V_{ub}|/|V_{cb}| and its unitarity triangle lower bound from sin⁑2Ξ²\sin 2\beta measurements suggests that Ξ±β‰ˆ90∘\alpha \approx 90^{\circ} and sinβ‘Ξ³β‰ˆcos⁑β=0.91\sin\gamma \approx \cos\beta = 0.91 and a large direct CP violation in B decays would be possible. In this talk, I would like to discuss a recent analysis of the non resonant and resonant CP asymmetry for the decays Bβˆ’β†’Ο€+Ο€βˆ’Kβˆ’B^- \to \pi^+ \pi^- K^- and Bβˆ’β†’K+Kβˆ’Kβˆ’B^- \to K^+ K^- K^- where the CP asymmetry at the Ο‡c0\chi_{c0} resonance comes from the interference of the non resonant amplitude with the resonant amplitude BΒ±β†’Ο‡c0KΒ±B^\pm \to \chi_{c0} K^\pm β†’Ο€+Ο€βˆ’KΒ± \to\pi^+ \pi^- K^\pm and BΒ±β†’Ο‡c0KΒ±B^\pm \to \chi_{c0} K^\pm β†’K+Kβˆ’KΒ± \to K^+ K^- K^\pm. Using the the Babar and Belle measurements of the Bβˆ’β†’Ο‡c0Kβˆ’B^-\to \chi_{c0} K^- branching ratios, we predict that partial width asymmetry at the Ο‡c0\chi_{c0} resonance could reach 10% for the Bβˆ’β†’Ο€+Ο€βˆ’Kβˆ’B^- \to \pi^+ \pi^- K^- decay and 16% for the Bβˆ’β†’K+Kβˆ’Kβˆ’B^- \to K^+ K^- K^-decay.Comment: Invited talk at the Workshop on the CKM Unitarity Triangle, IPPP Durham, April 2003 (eConf C0304052). 4 pages LaTeX, 5 eps figure
