Math teacher perspectives about computer use in teaching practices

Abstract

This article describes some results of a research carried out in schools in the city of Braga, located in northern Portugal, on the use of computers by mathematics teachers in their classes. Based on data collected through a questionnaire, considerations are presented on this use according to the perspectives of 44 teachers participating in this research. The results show that most of the teachers surveyed (84.1%) integrates the computer in their teaching practices, while few (15.9%) did not use it. Show up, too, the prospects of these teachers on this integration to their teaching practices, indicating advantages, disadvantages and the reasons for the use of computers in their classes.
