Representações e vivências da interculturalidade: grupos de discussão com jovens em Portugal

Abstract

Este artigo visa apresentar os resultados preliminares da análise de grupos focais realizados no âmbito de um projeto de doutoramento em Ciências da Comunicação, na Universidade do Minho, intitulado Perspetivas sobre a Diversidade Cultural: Discursos, Representações e Vivências da Interculturalidade. Nesta fase, foram analisados os discursos e os significados da diversidade cultural junto de estudantes, portugueses e estrangeiros, frequentando universidades portuguesas. Procurou-se averiguar o tipo de dificuldades sentidas na interação entre distintas nacionalidades e culturas. A escolha pelas entrevistas aos estudantes justificou-se pelo facto de portugueses e estrangeiros estarem num espaço de convívio comum, a universidade, e à partida, usufruírem das mesmas oportunidades de acesso ao conhecimento e intercâmbio cultural.This paper aims to present the preliminary results of the analysis of the focus group conducted within the PhD project in Communication Sciences at the University of Minho, entitled Perspectives on Cultural Diversity: Discourses, Representations and Experiences of Interculturality. At this stage, the discourses and the meanings of cultural diversity for students of Portuguese universities were examined. An analysis of the representations of Portuguese and foreign students on cultural diversity was undertaken. An understanding of the difficulties in the interaction of different nationalities and cultures was sought. The choice to interview students was justified by the fact that Portuguese and foreigners do share a common space, the university, and at first, benefit from the same opportunities of access to knowledge and cultural exchange
