Physics Opportunities in Ultraperipheral Heavy Ion Collisions at LHC

Abstract

Due to coherence, there are strong electromagnetic fields of short duration in very peripheral heavy ion collisions. They give rise to photon-photon and photon-nucleus collisions with high flux.
