In this work, the domain to investigate is limited to the need for information in determining the
role of hospitality industry in the Vineyard High Douro (ADV) in the appreciation of senior cultural
experience, having regard to the necessary establishment of dynamics in terms of public-private
partnerships.
The increase of life expectancy, literacy and of cultural appetite, demand for better quality of life,
greater financial security and absence of family commitments, habit to go into their territory to find a
space for physical and therapeutic rehabilitation, and temporary sedentarisation, configure the senior,
while a human element with more than 65 years, as one of the main actors of the tourism system,
assuming great importance while market segment.
Then, we have tried to understand the extent to which the hotel industry of th Vineyard High
Douro-World Heritage (ADV-PM) could represent an important role for the development of senior cultural
tourism development, taking into account the nature and culture of this wine region, the result of
continuous and ancestor of man action.
Methodologically, this work is based on a case study, by collecting secondary data and
documentation that enable a statistical analysis and primary data collected by quantitative and
qualitative techniques, in particular the application of surveys to the directors/managers of the hotels of
the region and public or private entities, followed by a content analysis.
We found that, for the segment in question, the accommodation facilities have great importance;
we have identified the type and quantity of the various existing partnerships in the region and its
importance. We concluded that in the ADV-PM, there is a awareness of the potential of the senior
segment and of cultural tourism for the development of the region, and presents itself with insufficient
synergy among the stakeholders
