Do body checking has relationship with restraint eating in female athletes?

Abstract

The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship of body checking with restraint eating in female athletes. 97 athletes from gymnastics, track and field and swimming aged over 12 years were participated. We used the Body Checking and Avoidance Questionnaire (BCAQ) to assess the frequency of body checking. To assess restraint eating subscale "Diet" of the Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) was utilized. To assess body dissatisfaction was utilized the Body Shape Questionnaire. The findings showed a relation between body dissatisfaction and Diet subscale (F(1, 96)=24,33; R²=0,51; p=0,001). Finally, it was revealed a relationship with the BCAQ and Diet subscale (F(1, 96)=19,56; R²=0,54; p=0,001). It was concluded that body checking is directly related to restraint eating in female athletes.O objetivo do estudo foi analisar a relação da checagem corporal com a restrição alimentar em atletas do sexo feminino.
