Abstract
The paper addresses ancient masonry structures, from the perspective of conservation, analysis and
strengthening. These tasks are still a challenge to modern practitioners even if significant research advances
have occurred in the last decades. Significant advances have been made in non-destructive testing,
mechanical characterization, tools for advanced numerical analysis, knowledge on traditional materials and
techniques, and innovative materials and techniques. Here, recent recommendations are addressed and recent
case studies are presented, aiming at providing a basis for discussion and for guiding remedial measures
