18세기 원납의 증가와 동전의 재정활용

Abstract

이 논문은 필자의 박사학위논문(2014 조선후기 상평통보, 서울대학교 박사학위논문)의 일부를 수정․보완한 것임.This paper investigates the use of coin during and after the 18th century in Joseon. To date, coin has gained major attention in Korean history research, especially focused on the medium of exchange. However, as Sanpyungtongbo was produced in quantity, weight on the governments use of coin in finances was increased. The government derived a lot of profit regulating prices with coin, and as a result, they could appropriate finance. They did so particularly by overcoming the price difference among regions with coin. When there was a lack of grain in a certain area, the government facilitated the movement of supplies by raising the price since merchants tried to distribute them in order to make a profit. The government could eventually manage national finance flexibly through coin; accordingly, the importance of coin in a national budget had increased more and more. Collecting about 40percent of taxes with coin during the mid-18th century can be a good example. In conclusion, coin can be understood as what influenced finance management of Joseon, and in a broader perspective, one of the various means that maintained Joseon Dynasty. For further study, a contrastive, one of the various means that maintained Joseon Dynasty. For further study, a contrative analysis of coin distribution of China and Japan and that of Joseon based on this reserch will be explored
