Mediatization and commercialization of the Kult band. Case study

Abstract

Celem niniejszej pracy jest zbadanie problematyki mediatyzacji oraz komercjalizacji zespołu muzycznego Kult. Zjawiska te zostały przez autorkę przeanalizowane i porównane w wybranych rocznikach działalności grupy z lat 1985-2019 oraz przedstawione w kontekście genezy zespołu, jego przynależności gatunkowej i środowiskowej, a także w kontekście zmieniającej się na przestrzeni lat istnienia zespołu sytuacji polityczno-gospodarczej w Polsce. Przypadek Kultu został przez autorkę potraktowany jako przykład szerszego zjawiska: mediatyzacji i komercjalizacji buntowniczej twórczości subkulturowej i alternatywnej. Wiodącą metodą badawczą zastosowaną w tej pracy jest studium przypadku. Wyniki badań poprzedza część teoretyczna, która wprowadza czytelnika w problematykę subkultur (szczególnie subkultury punk, z której wywodzi się Kult), twórczości buntowniczej, mediatyzacji i komercjalizacji muzyki oraz dokładnie opisuje okoliczności powstania i działalność grupy Kult.The aim of this work is to examine the issues of mediatization and commercialization of the Kult music group. These phenomena have been analyzed and compared by the author in selected years of group's activity from 1985-2019 and presented in the context of the genesis of the group, its species and environmental affiliation, as well as in the context of the political and economic situation in Poland that has changed over the years. The case of Kult was treated by the author as an example of a wider phenomenon: mediatization and commercialization of rebellious subcultural and alternative art. The leading research method used in this work is the case study. The research results are preceded by the theoretical part, which introduces the reader to the issues of subcultures (especially the punk subculture from which Kult comes from) rebellious music art, mediatization and commercialization of music, and describes in detail the circumstances of the creation and activity of the Kult group
