Youth Perspectives in Africa: how young people view politics, society and the environment

Abstract

Youth is a cross-cutting priority for the European Union and is particularly important for the Strategy with Africa and the European Consensus on Development. Africa has the youngest population structure and the fastest growing youth population of all continents, and youth will continue to be an important dimension for the forthcoming summit in 2020. In this context, this report asks what the opinions are of young Africans on a range of salient topics and what this can mean for sustainable development and relations between Africa and the European Union. The focus here is on: 1. Climate change; 2. Political participation; 3. Corruption; 4. Trust in institutions; 5. Media and information and 6.Gender discrimination. We examine these with data from the Afrobarometer survey from 34 countries.JRC.E.6-Demography, Migration and Governanc
