Que viva Chango. Afro-Cuban Syncretic Cults and Culture in Cuba

Abstract

Rétropublication en archives ouvertes (responsable Eliane Daphy, secrétaire de rédaction de l'ouvrage)http://elianedaphy.org/article.php3?id_article=17While it is usually the anthropologist who chooses his field of research, on rare occasions the reverse occurs : the field seems to seek out the researcher. These preliminary remarks concerning syncretic Afro-Cuban religious cults and culture are a case in point. It was in spring 1982 that the reseacher's avocation brought her into contact with Cubans temporarily living in Paris. Out of this contact and subsequent others both with Cubans and Cuba, itself, certain phenomena imposed themselves so insistantly upon the researcher's attention, that she could not help but respond. This paper records the resulting observations and preliminary analyses
