Advance in Cathodic Properties with Nano-structured Double Perovskite via Infiltration for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

Abstract

The cathode polarization resistance (Rp) has been regarded as one of challenges for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). To reduce the cathode Rp, the active sites for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) should be attained as many as possible. In this study, the layered perovskite GdBa0.5Sr0.5CoFeO5+?? (GBSCF) was chosen as a cathode material due to its excellent structural stability and electrochemical characteristics. The optimized microstructure of GBSCF cathode for enhanced ORR was fabricated into villus structure composed of nano particles with pertinent sintering temperature. The optimized GBSCF cathode shows outstanding results cathode area specific resistance (ASR) of 0.006 ?? cm2 and maximum power density of 0.593 W cm-2 at 700oC on the YSZ electrolyte supported cell with thickness of ~80 mm
