THE IVRP AS AN INDICATOR OF COMPETITIVENESS IN THE BOVINE MEAT VALUE CHAIN IN MEXICO

Abstract

Artículo de investigación que tiene por objetivo estimar el Índice de Ventaja Relativa de la Producción (IVRP) para identificar el nivel de competitividad de la cadena de valor de carne bovina en MéxicoThe objective of the work is to provide evidence of the effect that spatial location has on horizontal and vertical integration, the generation of comparative and competitive advantages, and participation in the international market of the beef value chain in México. A preliminary analysis of the value chain and the estimation of the Indices of Relative Advantage of Production (IVRP) for the period 2000-2019 are presented. In the first case, the results indicate that spatial location is a determining factor in regional distribution, in the specialization of production systems and in the integration of all links in the value chain: while, the values obtained from the indices reveal that the entities with the highest degree of specialization are those that generate the greatest comparative and competitive advantages, as is the case of Chihuahua and Baja California, which can enter the international market and, consequently, increase Mexico’s participation in the international market. No patrocinadores, no financiació
