The present invention relates to a novel process for separation of heavy metals from a suspension comprising heavy metal containing particulate material, in which process the heavy metals are removed by use of the electrodialytic remediation set-up. The novel process of the present invention may also be used for recovery of phosphorous in cases where the particulate material also comprises phosphorous in addition to heavy metals. The present invention also relates to the electrochemical cell for use in performing the novel process and to the use of the novel process for separation of heavy metals from the heavy metal containing particulate material.</p
