Dyslexia is a condition which varies widely between individuals and affects not only the sufferer’s ability to read, but is also likely to affect sequencing ability; taking these as the initial framework for a system to help dyslexic readers to process text more easily on a computer screen, we have produced a system called SeeWord which allows easy and intuitive configuration of a visual environment. We argue that there are wider conclusions to be drawn about interface design generally, and especially about the two orthodoxies of direct manipulation and WYSIWYG
