Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (MOCA)

Abstract

Glass and metal canopy (not in original design) covering sunken courtyard; MOCA the organization was founded in 1979; today the museum is housed in three facilities, MOCA Grand Avenue, The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (formerly the Temporary Contemporary) in Little Tokyo, and MOCA Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. The Grand Avenue, downtown Los Angeles location is home to almost 5,000 artworks created since 1940. Its chief exhibition spaces are under the courtyard level, lit from above by groups of pyramidal skylights. The building was Isozaki's first project in the US.
