Photovoltaic (PV) cells are characterized at 25 °C and 1000W/m2, yielding the rated power output. Polycrystalline silicon PV cells operating above 25 °C show a power drop of -0.4 to -0.5%/K-1 [(Weakliem et al., 1979]. A novel technique for heat removal from PV and their thermal regulation is identified using phase change materials (PCM) which has achieved higher heat transfer rates with minimum operating cost. This unique technique absorbs thermal energy available on the PV panel as latent heat of fusion during solid-liquid phase change and results in lower PV operating temperature. The most suitable PCM for this application, their integration into PV and thermal regulation potential is presented in this paper
