Falling on the heels of the United Nations Day on the Right to Truth and the 25th Anniversary of the El Salvador Truth Commission, this joint event between TJI and the Cardozo Law School in New York drew attention to the role that truth commission archives play as a potential source of information for justice and the search for those forcibly disappeared in times of conflict. The event panelists discussed historical decisions about access to truth commission archives in the light of evolving standards on the right to truth, accountability, and justice. The panel also talked about the specific potential of El Salvador’s truth commission archives and the ways in which they have a contribution to make to a newly opening case universe and/or the search for the disappeared. The event took the form of a directed conversation, Q&amp;A interview-style, between panel chair Jocelyn Getgen Kestenbaum, and the panelists, with final questions and comments from the floor.
