 Cet article développe certaines idées de la psychanalyse—en particulier la conception objectale et relationnelle du phénomène transitionnel—qui concernent les aspects psychical, physiques et, à un certain degré, sociaux du monde de l’enfant en tant qu’ils peuvent donner forme à notre compréhension de l’expérience cinématographique. Dans cette perspective, cet article explore la sorte particulière d’engagement que le cinéma peut offrir à son consommateur dans l’interaction entre l’expérience psychique intérieure et la réalité matérielle extérieure dans le monde du film et dans l’expérience du spectateur. L’article suggère que le caractère distinctif de la matérialité du cinéma en tant que médium culturel réside dans les façons avec lesquelles le film peut créer et organiser l’espace et le mouvement, et suggère aussi comment le cinéma peut recréer et évoquer le sentiment d’entrer dans, ou de retrouver, le monde de l’enfant. Ces questions sont discutées en référence à trois films: Où est la maison de mon ami ? (Abbas Kiarostami, 1987) ; Mandy (Alexander Mackendrick, 1951) ; et Ratcatcher (Lynne Ramsay, 1999). </jats:p
