Superior Stability and Compression Across Complex Peripheral Meniscal Tears: An Inside Out Technique

Abstract

Meniscal tear is the most common knee pathology. There are benefits to repairing and preserving the meniscus with regards to function and chondroprotection. Historically, reported failure rates have been unclear and are potentially due to technical aspects of the repair. Providing even compression across a meniscal tear provides the best stability. This, along with a good blood supply leads to the successful healing of the meniscus. Our technique utilizes an inside-out approach, achieving circumferential compression across the meniscal tear, thus providing better stability and low failure rates. The article is available via Open Access.
