This report sets out the methods, findings, discussion and conclusions related tothe RSWE Area of inquiry 1: How can universities best select the right people forsocial work programmes?, detailed in the SSSC tender as follows:‘We need to know more about the different ways in which universities inScotland currently select students for entry to social work programmes. We alsothink that it’s important that we learn from best practice used in selection inother countries and other professions. We would like to explore the potential tointroduce a national approach to selection. We also need to ensure that wemaximise the ‘widening access’ agenda while ensuring that students have theappropriate values and the capacity to develop the skills, knowledge andunderstanding to be effective social workers. Having this information will helpus make recommendations about selection.
