Un erbario didattico del Settecento

Abstract

Among the material of “Pharmacy Museum” of the University of Pavia is listed a pharmaceutical herbarium, originally consisting of eight parts but currently missing one. It is an exercise of a student’s education and not a Botany work. The authors of this collection are two: Valeriano Luigi Brera (Pavia 1772-Venice 1840) in 1791 for the parts I to VI and (Carlo Alberto) Domenico Muggetti (Lesa NO, 1774-1851) in the year 1800 for the parts VII and VIII. Both graduated in medicine in Pavia and both have a place in the history of medicine. In the preface of the manuscript is cited the work of Joseph Jacob Plenck Icones Plantarum Medicinalium secundum systema Linnaei digestarum, cum enumeratione virium et usus medici (Vienna, 1788-803) used as model. The authors state that the specimens were collected in the Botanical Garden of the University of Pavia
