PROKALOArchitecture Seminar Series 2008-2009  Laura Fernandez-Gonzalez The University of Edinburgh (UK) || http://ace.caad.ed.ac.uk/prokalo/    This course PROKALO’s seminars was entitled ‘Art & Power’ in honour of Roy Strong’s classical piece, the seminar series however covered a wide range of topics reflecting the Architecture department’s research interests: colonial studies, architectural theory and education, conservation, architectural and planning history, architectural design, etc. There was also a major input by the department in both number of speakers and collaboration, i.e. Dr. Livensey’s seminar organised in collaboration with Architecture Research seminars, or Karandinou’s talk on her winning project ‘Athens by sound’ Greek pavilion at Venice Biennale 2008 at the Edinburgh College of Art seminar series.  In terms of organisation, this course team aimed to introduce a couple of minor changes to increase participation, i.e. decreasing the number of events during the academic year and changing the programme from Tuesdays evenings to lunch time, with great success. Nevertheless, PROKALO’s major achievement during this course was the substantial economic funding provided from its own limited budget to the organisation of the postgraduate conference ‘Transilient Boundaries in/of Architecture’ of which selected essays form this current EAR journal.  Prokalo seminars 2008/2009 were possible thanks to the teamwork of a number of students i.e. Nan Wei Wu (Website administrator), Shao-yu Huang (publicity), Dr. Yue Zhuang, Dr. Giovanna Guidicini, and Lara Day (logistics team).
