The article deals with graphic and verbal markers of communicative silence (silent effect). It concerns graphical and verbal units of the silence effect nomination with linguistically cognitive basis depicted on the material of the English discourse. The nature of communicative silence is vividly traced through the cognitive paradigm of the discourse approach.
