STUDY ON "NEIGHBORHOOD UNIT" ORIENTED SECURITY OF RESIDENTIAL DISTRICT SPACE: A CASE STUDY OF "MINSHENG COMMUNITY" IN TAIPEI

Abstract

Residential buildings could not be developed on a large scale in Taiwan, as the land in Taiwan is privately owned. Therefore, open communities of "block" pattern are dominated and closed housing estates sporadically distribute in Taipei. In that context, this study used space safety assessment factor, basing on Perry's theory of "Neighborhood Unit", to discuss the effects of space states on the safety in residential area. "Minsheng Community" in Taipei was selected as a model community. We proposed feasible patterns in space levels for developing safe community, including boundary space, public open space and road system.
